Default C2S / C4S Owners - need your advice

Well, it's been 2 weeks since I picked up my C2S. The main reason I purchased the C2S was that I thought it was pretty much perfect right out of the box - I had no intention of modifying it. Famous last words!

I went pretty crazy with my last car (although I thought it was tastefully modded - stickers were for a company sponsored show):

I've already ordered a set of 18" Supercups, Eclipse CD receiver, Infinity speakers, and RSR mufflers. I'm now contemplating my next purchase - the Turbo S Aerokit (I hope Jeff doesn't mind me using this pic - it was the main source of inspiration for me wanting to get the kit):

Now don't get me wrong, I think the Aerokit looks hot! My only concern is (and I hope I don't offend Aerokit owners) is that I think I will look like a poser with the kit. After all, even though the factory offered this as an option, it's really meant for turbo bodied cars. To me, this is a case of function following form - normally aspirated cars do not need the whale tail. I think my Porsche may look kinda silly with all the appendages while "only" sporting 282 hp.

Should I stick with the stock body and my Supercups? I would kinda hate to loose the unique twin C2S grille:

Will I kill the resale value if I go with an aftermarket Aerokit?

I think it depends on whether you like the cleaner lines of the non aerokitted cars or the look-like-its-going-fast-even-when-its-standing-still look of the aerokitted cars

Personally I like them both but mine has the 'clean' look which I really like now, but then I was orginally after a car with an aerokit but never found a decent one.

As for resale - if its fitted by a reputable bodyshop then I dont see why it would affect it - imho.

btw: love the look of a C2S in white - really really nice.

Totally personal preference. I think DC has a silver C2S with an aerokit, and it looks sweet. I have a C4S with a nice, smooth butt, and I like that. If I got a tt, obviously I would take the wing. With the NA cars, my personal preference is the smooth butt, but there is no right or wrong answer.

Re: resale, from asking prices (can't tell about selling as I was not looking for a car witht he kit), they seem to me to be higher with the aero kit. I don't know how that ends up in the final transactions, though.

I prefer the clean lines. You have a rare car already. Don't worry about resale...drive it and have fun. Good Luck!

I have really wanted an Aerokit for quite a while, but the cost was too high. Now I am quite content with my "simple" widebody.

I was looking at going with aftermarket stuff to save $$$. From what I've heard this is a big mistake. The $$$ you save with getting an aftermarket kit you will spend on prepping the wing and front spoiler as well as purchasing the OEM grill, hardware, etc... In other words, there is a reason the OEM kit costs so much. With that said, the kit costs about 7k but it can be had for 4k. Try Crescent porsche in New Orleans.

AlgaeHater... I personally like the aerokit. I agree with Surj-993C2S that aerokitted cars look-like-its-going-fast-even-when-its-standing-still. Besides, I believe it turns more heads. Also, how can you resist this phatbut.

I too wanted the aerokit when I was first looking. At the time I loved the look but after living without for a year I now view the Aerokit on non-turbo's as a little over the top. The clean lines and the split grill really make the CS stand out enough. As others have stated it really is a personal preference. Do what you want. My vote would be to spend the money on suspension and European bumpers.

Fantastic pictures of the Car by the way.

Good Luck

Tim

I'd like that split grill if you do go with the aerokit upgrade. I think the split grill w/ the turbo S front bumper would look great. Do aerokits have any sort of side skirting that complements the Turbo S front?

Incorrect, this aerokit was not available on the turbo; it is intended for the regular 911 Carrera. Don't feel bad about it, your car will benefit at all speeds up to 168 mph.

Although you are technically correct, this is of course the body work that came on the Turbo S and was made for the ultimate turbo 993. Any C2S/C4S that received the aerokit was purely out of taste and aesthetics. The car does not NEED the aerokit, nor does it benefit from it handling-wise unless it is truly a track car or autobahn car.

Making a car stand out too much (Look at ME!) can attract unwanted attention. There are lots of mentally challenged people out there that may be very envious of your baby and decide to 'take hostile action against you out of envy and frustration."

Your car looks gorgeous just the way it is, imo.

Something to consider. . .

That is certainly true; however, it has been my observation that the cooling characteristics of the aero rear wing are more efficient than the standard body style. Therefore, the engine on an aerokit car seems to run cooler, which is clearly a benefit.

Actually, I believe I remember Robin posting some facts that state the opposite, that the fixed spoiler wings don't cool as well. I believe he used a temperature gauge or some other scientific method in determining his findings.
