Nice, that was a quick turnaround, less than a day. Definitely at the top of satisfying diy's when you get results like yours and save a few Benjamins to boot.

Some folks have had trouble figuring out how to remove the actual fog light module from the plastic housing. Here's how:

Slide the wire clip off and remove the rear plastic cover.

There is one long hex-head screw on the front that adjusts the height of the fog light pattern. Unscrew it all the way to disengage it from the metal fog light assembly .

There are two pins on the metal fog light assembly that have black rubber pieces on them. Those simply press into two locations on the large molded lens. One of these areas is circled on this pic.

In other words, unscrew the one screw, then the metal fog light box presses out of the back of the lamp housing.

For folks finding this for the first time, if you read this thread from the start, it's a complete "how to."

True, they are not easily removed.

But they CAN be removed. Several of us have done it.

Hi All,

sorry for reviving this old thread, but as I approach this DIY, I am wondering if anyone has actually just broke the old glass in pieces while its still in the housing...

I assume this is easier and cleaner... removing the glass pieces should be ok with small tongs or tweezer!?

Then simply paint and add the new glass...

Yeah, might be easier. I'd cover the lens with duct tape, then hit the center of the lens with the edge of a hammer or maybe a centerpunch.

The adhesive is very tough, so it will stick take some time to remove all the pieces....

This was the thread that got us all started - thanks!

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/484236-my-version-of-the-993-foglight-5.html

My limited contribution - post 74 - was that heating the glass is a win-win: no whacking, and you've softened the glue to assist in pulling out the shards with pliers and cleaning the channel.

Cheers

Matt

Hi Jlaa,

FIrst, that front shot of your 993 is probably the nicest I've ever seen of a 993. Beautiful paint and lights! I have a white 993 and recently got clear euro corners. Now I need to repaint the foglights. Here's the question: did you repaint the fog lights with a chrome paint on the inside (you refer to silver - is that the same as chrome?). Someone else, at two-fourths blog - http://twofourthsfull.blogspot.com/2013/ - did his, but they didn't match the new clear euro corners, whereas yours did. Here's the directions I'll use and that he used: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...hem-shine.html I assume you used them, too? Did you heat the foglamps in the oven at 150 for a while first? How did you avoid a gap between the fog lights and corners?

That's a lot of questions. Thanks for any feedback. BTW, your other work you've done is impressive. For example the LED lights. I have no experience with that stuff and no time to try anytime soon but it's neat to see what other people are doing.

I used the following Griot's Aluminum Paint. I believe they discontinued this paint around 10 years ago. However, I suspect they used to get it from Wurth and rebranded it with their own name.

I did not heat the fog lamps. I patiently cut the glue and levered the lens out w/ a screwdriver. It took a long time. I didn't do anything special to avoid a gap between the fog lights and the corners though. (unless you are talking about removing the bumperettes?

Keep on plugging away at the small stuff, and you'll get to the bigger stuff soon. Fun times!

In case anyone might be interested in using fogs for DRLs-

I developed a wiring mod that allows you to turn the fogs on without having the headlights on. You have to remove the radio to make the mod, not a biggie. If you leave the fog light switch on, they will come on whenever you start the car.
