Litronic HID issues???
The right side headlight has been intermittent. I've swapped between my two spare controllers and a spare ballast. I've swapped the bulb. The problem persists. There's no guarantee they are good but unlikely they are all bad.
Sometimes, when cycling the switch between on and off, both lights will go on but the right side will go out again with another cycle. Sometimes, when I switch the lights on. And the right is off, I can hear a faint, chattering buzz, like a relay that can't seat. Every once in awhile, the left headlamp will flutter in apparent sympathy with its unhappy partner on the right.
At present the right lamp will not come on at all.
What other items are part of this system and where are they located? How complicated does it get?
I had thought about completely refitting with Tore's system but he says it's fundamentally incompatible.
Any ideas out there?
Thanks,

You can , but it requires you to cut wires.
My car was retrofitted to an aftermarket HID before I bought it.
Happy to share a photo of what wires need to stay connected.
I'm not sure I would go that route, on an original unmolested car.

Shadow... I agree with you about not altering the stock setup. I really prefer to not go that route.
The pics would be good to have though, in the event of having no other viable alternative. I wonder what the threshold of unacceptable economic pain is for maintaining the Litronic system?
Thanks,

High beam, low beam, or both? If it is both the problem is likely at the ground point VI on the central electric panel (diagram says member right side). If it is only one of the bulbs out check for power at the respective fuse (when the light is out), 21 for right high beam or 23 for right low beam. If the light is out and you have power at the fuse then there is probably a bad connection at the headlights or the headlight ground. If there is no power at the fuse the problem is on the dimmer switch side.
If the power or ground to the high beams is intermittent it will be engaging and disengaging the fog light relay R34. That is probably what you heard. That's not likely to be the cause of the problem.

Hoggel,
This is a good start. Thanks for the info.
The problem is limited to the low beam side.
I'll run the tests for power at the points you suggest. Just gotta find the time.

Since you've been switching around the ballasts and ignitors, that seems to eliminate those as issues. However you did mention at times the left side goes out too.
So all possible match up's you've tested like moving the right side ignitor to the left side etc.
It is possible to retrofit an aftermarket kit, really depends how badly you want to keep the OEM setup. Very costly when I looked into this last time, so I went aftermarket.

You should be able to run Tore's setup, just need the D2S conversion kit.
Good luck, I know how annoying this can be with flickering lights.
