But how is the Lens different in the picture? Are you referring to the little light circled? It seems that it's just different housing.

Was M601 even offered in US on 993? Maybe on 993tt it was.

The lens on the yellow car has a cutout for the leveling sensor/ mechanism (?). The other one doesn't.

The plastic reflector with the cutout is part of the lens. The glass may be the same, but when you order a new glass lens, it comes with that plastic reflector piece as part of the overall lens assembly.

M601 was absolutely offered in the US as an option. My targa has it from the factory.

Also, that little thing circled is a bubble level. Since US headlights don't have the rigid horizontal cut off of the ROW lights, they are harder to align. The bubble level is there to help make US headlights easier to align without special equipment (as silly as that sounds).

The cutout is not in the lens!

Trust me, it is! When you buy replacement lenses they come with the plastic piece that I've circled. I've owned quite a few 993 with and without Litronics and I've replaced them due to that plastic piece turning a yellowish color.

Absolutley! But that plastic piece that eventually turns yellow is not the lens!

Correct, but when you order a new lens that plastic comes attached to the new lens.

Sure you can take it off the lens, just like I did with my yellow 993 to "polish" the yellowish look Jason talk about and you can compare to my 993tt (aren red) that is yellowish (age). But that's another subject.

It's part of the lens. Try ordering it. If it's an argument about what you consider a lens and what Porsche considers a lens I suggest you contact them. Feel free to comment but we seemed to have already figured out the part numbers thanks to this incredible community of lens lovers, haters, non believers and spin doctors!

Gotcha...now it makes sense. Good to know that those plastic pieces come with the lens.

Default Yes. Litronic headlights M601 optional on MY98 993 C2S

Yes. M601 Litronic headlights was optional, certainly in MY97 & '98 year production.
Ordered a USA spec C2S coupe in May '97 with a late August '97 production spec'd option for option with the 993tt car. Basically a 2wd normally aspirated full option spec'd coupe.

FWIW... In year 2000 when back in Germany, the TUV inspection @ Werk 1 Porsche AG made no change to the Litronic headlight lens claiming "for the 993 production the LHD headlight lens are worldwide". For Germany plates & TUV inspection,, only the Euro rear fog light and *RoW F&R bumper covers were added or changed. *Elected.
