Post Clutch replacement

My clutch requires replacement and I am considering upgrading to a RS LWF and Clutch. I have been maintaining my 95 993 C4 since ownership of over a year. Robin's site gave me the courage and motivation to DIY up to this point. Since he does not have a DIY for clutch replacement and I dont own a car lift, I am forced to rely on a shop to peform this service. I am familar with two shops in my area Autosport Performance in Englewood, NJ. I used to take my e30 M3 there for service, only because they had a specialist for this car. They quoted me over $3500 for a stock replacement clutch for the 993, so they are out. The second shop is New Age Performance in East Rutherford. I brought my 993 there for a PPI. I have not used them for anything else, but the owner is very knowledgeable with the 993 platform and seems like an honest guy. His stock clutch replacement was around $1800. He was looking into the RS upgrade as an option for the quote, but none of his vendors has one in stock and wont be getting them for several weeks. The main issue I have is since I have a 95 I would prefer the Andial heavier LWF version. The problem is this shop does not purchase from Andial and will not warranty the job if they cant use their vendors for parts. So, with this can anyone recommend a reputable shop in the NJ area. I track the car about 12-15 times during the season and will continue to increase track time. I primarily run DE's and Time trial events. thanks for your help.

NJ isn't SF but I'd expect prices to be similar... My mechanic charges about $1000 for the labor of transmission removal and replacement and I think I paid about $1800 for the RS LWF and clutch. You only want to use Porsche parts or Andial's modification (to the Porsche part).

If you get the Andial version (which adds a 7 Lb piece onto the RS flywheel) you get about 1/2 the benefit of the modification. I chose to go with the straight RS LWF. Until I tweaked my ISV it was a bit of a pain, but after 1.5 years and the much better performance, I'm very happy with it and would not worry about using the straight RS LWF on a '95. If you're going to spend all the money on it, get the full benefit from it.

Tom,

Who did the install for your LWF and clutch? I am about to do the same and was looking to get some input for local shops.

Thanks!

Steve

Get the parts from gert (I remember about 1400 or so Euros). He'll have them to youyr door in few days. then your shop can do the installation.

You don't need a lift to remove your engine. I haven't done it on a 993 yet, but have done it on plenty of earlier 911's. If lack of a lift is all that's holding you back from DIY'ing this job, please reconsider, do it yourself, take lots of pictures and write up a killer tech article on the whole job. I WILL do this job myself when it comes time.

Steve, my RS LWF was installed by Tony Heyer at Heyer Performance. Send me an email and I can provide some thoughts and comments about Tony.

Tony also insisted that he purchase the parts he was going to install as he gets his profit out of the markup. The overall price was only a little more than buying the parts from Gert or Steve (Rennsport Systems). This is not an unusual request from most small shops.
