I recently discharged my battery while doing some load testing and was unable to
restart. I was at my public storage unit and had my jumper cables so went looking
for someone to jump start the car. The office manager produced a small lithium-ion
battery jump starter and suggested we try it. I was skeptical. Would something so
small really start my car? But it had no problem spinning it over and I was hooked.
I purchased this product at Sears called Bully that is a lithium-ion battery jump starter.
It comes with several attachments and a small canvas storage bag.

As you know, if power is disconnected from the Motronic, the computer is reset
and the OBD settings are lost. This can become an issue when changing batteries,
testing for parasitic draw, and other instances.
There is a very simple way to prevent this by connecting a 12v supply to the cigar
lighter. The cigar lighter is wired to Terminal 30 in the Central Electric (see diagram).
Since the Motronic is also wired to Terminal 30 there is then a direct path between
the two.
The Bully can be used to power the Motronic with the proper attachment.
I purchased this adapter from Schumacher.
I recently replaced my old battery and I used the Bully to prevent losing the computer settings.
Charge Maintenance
Periodically you need to recharge the Bully so it will have a full charge when you
need it. Since I have a Garmin GPS that usually I have to update every 3 months
with new map information, I will also top up the charge of the Bully at that time.
Great write-up - and timely now that winter has arrived. These can also power mobile phones, flash lights, and lap tops in a pinch. While the Bully didn't make this list, I thought this link to Auto Deet's Top Ten Lithium Jump Starters (posted July 2015) might be of interest. http://www.autodeets.com/top-10-what...on-the-market/

Interesting list. They also left out the Schumacher SL1 which would have
been my second choice (http://www.batterychargers.com/sl1/). They list
at $161 but could be bought on Black Friday for $79 on Amazon. I bought
the Bully at Sears locally on Black Friday for $69 which lists for $100. I didn't
think I needed the additional features of the SL1.
