Hi Guys. In my quest for an air cooled 911 I have come a cross a very nice 993 and would like to get some sage advice on what you all think a reasonable purchase price would be. The car is a 95 C2 coupe, basic car (manual) with no special options. Overall somewhere between condition 2 and 3 with about 40K miles on it. Some minor paint work to clean up a ding/scrape on the rear engine deck lid……paint was blended into nearby panels and looks good. Car has been pampered and interior and exterior looks almost like new. Everything on the car is bone stock with no mods at all. Would 50-51K be a good buy if a PPI checks out? Thanks for any advice you can offer.
The best price is where a willing seller and a wiling buyer meet.
Would have the PPI, check the date codes of the tires; if older than five years plan on replacing them and factor that into the offer price (been through this myself). Also, a thorough review of maintenance records will be in order: engine mounts replaced (no, budget for), fluid changes recent (no, budget for), air, pollen filters changed recently (no, budget for) - you get the idea.
Not advising to nickel & dime seller, but fair is fair; the dollar amounts you mention would be probable starting point for a 40K vehicle with all maintenance up-to-date and fresh tires in my humble opinion,
Doubtless many others with far more experience and expertise than I will chime in in the next few days.
If the PPI is clean, service/maintenance up to date and no other stories, "mid to upper $40's private party actual sale price" sounds about right. Small premium for things like black interior vs tan/grey/blue and more desirable exterior colors. Riviera Blue was a standard color for MY95; that would be a $5k+ premium as would other certain paint to sample colors.

So you are saying $50-55k for a 40k mile riviera coupe, black interior and clean PPI? Where do I sign up?
You'll also want to budget for a suspension refresh, sounds like it's still on the original 20 year old suspension. Somewhere between $1500-$3000 depending on what suspension you'd go with.
I think I'm going to pull the trigger pending a good PPI. There are new Pilot Sports on the car and fluids have all been changed. The current owner has had the car for the last 15 yrs or so (since the first owner sold it at 16K miles). Current owner is PCA Porschephile and has essentially done all maintenance himself and kept a log of everything. That being said, I will need to do the suspension, motor mounts etc. over the next couple of years that are simply age related items…….but I'm OK with this. I'm also comfortable with the price point being around 50K……….I've been looking at 993s for the better part of a couple of years and there aren't many really pristine low mileage examples ('95 to boot) out there. I know I might be in the minority here, but I don't let a few thousand get in the way of getting the car you really want when you find it. I'll plan on putting 4-5K a year into the car to keep it in excellent shape regardless.
I'm very excited at the prospect of finally getting a 993. I'll keep everyone posted as things progress or if I have additional questions (I appreciate the help).
