Bill,
It's not surprising to hear that your "peers" had nothing negative to say amoung themselves. The SUV is coming and I'm sure they must all feel as though they must "get on board" and present a positive attitude towards this vehicle...their jobs may depend on it. In other words, I would never go to my annual national sales conference and talk about how bad the new product line is, because I don't want to be seen as a NON-team player. Now...where's that liquor board...this talk about a sales conference makes me thirsty

Having read Bill H's posts for the year and a half that I've been enjoying this board, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.
He's been a huge supporter of Rennlist and P-cars in general (and quite aware of their long heritage), gone out of his way to provide hospitality to any and all at track events, offered some very reasonable pricing and outstanding service (not true of all his bretheren) on parts, and I'm yet see any indication of him compromising his integrity for financial gain.
I'd do like your Sales Conference analogy Allen. Like you said, if you don't like the new line, you keep your mouth shut. I think that's what Bill'd do.
I believe you, Bill.
Just my two cents worth. No make that four cents, and call it dealer markup.

Mike,
The only reason Bill has been a supporter of Rennlist and other Porsche venues is to advertise his own business. Now, there is certainly nothing wrong with that but most of us do not see how he still insists that his posts are merely Porsche information that may be appreciated by many. I say this because he has yet to post one Cayenne message on the SUV board and continues to post all his "Porsche news" in the second most read forum here. This is because he knows that very few people read the SUV forum and he'll get a greater exposure on this forum.
All we are asking is to keep each and every one of these forums as on-topic as possible.

I fully support Viken's position. Cayenne discussion belongs on the SUV board. (Since this might not happen, I, for one, will never open a thread with the "SUV" or "Cayenne" in the title again. Made a big mistake reading this thread ) As to comparing a SUV to a 928, 914, 944 or whatever - heck, those were at least sports cars! SUV truly Porsche? Only marketing people can sell you that one... (a sucker is born every minute...)

Viken,
With all due respect to Bill, I agree. Bill, let's face it you've never said a negative thing about Porsche, and while I can understand that considering your job, I think you should also understand that it defies credibility to imply you've only heard "positive" with respect to the Cayenne.
I know the damn thing's coming and I accept that but I think it's really overkill- who cares if its the fastest SUV out there? To me, that isn't the purpose of an SUV. Porsche's market for the thing is obviously the status buyer- and my wife already bought a perfectly nice X5- thank you. Why wait years for an overhyped "Porsche" that's obviously coming to the market waaaaaaay too late?
Besides, in the pictures I've seen, it's plain ugly- and ugly don't sell.
I predict a downfall ala 928- which, I must say, is a lovely car. But one that had an extremely limited market- it was always playing catch-up- and it soon had the resale value of a heavy rock.

Silver,
Don't kid yourself with all these different acronyms. There is nothing sporty about any SUV, SAV or whatever you want to call them. Every one of these things is a disguised truck. Even the X5 drives like a truck, feels like a truck and rides like a truck. Don't let the marketing geniuses fool you.

Viken-
With all due respect, you are wrong. The X5 does not drive like a truck. It does not drive like a sports car, but it handles as well as (or better) than many family sedans. You may not like the genre, but for some of us it makes alot of sense. I am very pleased that it is among my stable of cars.

That's fine and I never suggested that you don't buy them. I have two friends who own the 4.4i, which I have driven and regularly get to ride in them. They are very uncomfortable and noisy.
All I am saying is that people should take these things for what they are and not believe claims that they drive and feel like a sport sedan. Both BMW and the automotive press initially claimed that the X5 is only different from a 5 series sedan in size, appearance and ride height. That, IMO, is plain untrue. I am on my fourth BMW sedan, three of which have been 5 series and will say that the X5 has little in common with its sedan equivalent.
I am glad that you are happy with yours as are my friends with theirs.

Fellow's,
Let's all go and have drink and do some bench racing.
Great weekend to all, I'm going out for a drive.

Hey Mike,
Actually, Viken does own a Ferrari 360 (Viken, you had to be cracking up when you read this! )!!!
I hope I own a Ferrari someday, even if it does mean that I have to grow even more chest hair and start wearing a gold chain!

You all do realize that the rumors coming out of Stuttgart are that after the Cayenne, a 4 door, front-engine sedan is being considered... So a "Porsche" becomes a sports car, a SUV, a 4 door sedan, and then, I guess, a truck and a motorcycle...

I gotta get-a piece of this topic: In order of importance. 1. Where's that Grey Goose liquor board? 2. I know to which board the Cayenne discussions in total belong and how to navigate there. 3. I've seen newest Porsche offering and have posted those impressions on the appropreate board.
Girls, Now who can assist me with a few 993 inquiries? My 993 is in for the G50/21 and LWF- can't wait for a spring DE.
