Windshield Problem...need help.

I went to Safelite yesterday to get my front windshield replaced with a new one on the advice of DanSt.Louis and the window they had did not have the same mirror connection mine did. My car is a 95 with a 94 build date. The mirror in my car has an adhesive connector that the mirror slides onto. The windshield they had in stock had a connector built into the window that the mirror twisted onto like a BMW. Did they change this mirror type mid year?
My original mirror in the car had some hazing so I ordered a 95-97 mirror from performanceproducts a while back and it was the same as my old one. I am confused what is the deal with the mirror? I did not change the windshield in fear that it was the wrong windshield for my car. Any help on this will be appreciated.
Question #2 How hard is it to change to a gold upgraded pulley. Is it a DIY type deal or mechanic job?

I looked in my parts book; there was a change in the int. mirror starting with serial no. 993SS_20898 (fairly early in '95 993 year). However, mounting style didn't change - was still glued onto the windshield glass (per the shop manual).
The windshields also changed, but there isn't a hint as to why or what's different. As I said, the mirror mounting style is common to both - glue a mounting point right onto the windshield. On the later windshield, parts manual shows a separate glue-on mounting plate but the shop manual doesn't discuss this; they say to remove the mirror you need a special style twist pliers. Shop manual installation only goes into installation of a total mirror, not a separate mounting piece (which they don't even show!).
Question 2 - why change? Any hint of trouble now? Why stir up a can of worms? Guess I don't see why I should change this; have an early '95 (serial no. 21696) and belt wear has not been a problem.
I had a windshield installed in my '95 993 by Safelite. Was a Porsche OE; their part no. FW00791 GGY. $711 installed in Feb 1999.

I have a squealing at random times not even when they are wet. It just happens every so often on the belts. I am going to wait for a OEM window instead of putting an aftermarket one on.
Thanks Ray I appreciate the help.
