When was the historic bottom of the 993 market ?

I've always loved the 993 but been scared by the maintenance bills...absouloutely love the c2s, c4s and turbo...

so I was thinking..when did the market bottom out before starting the crazy climb that it has been on lately ?

abiazis 12-21-2015 05:47 PM

2011.......

Depends on the car. But yea seems like 2010-2012 was the starting point of the run up.

1crazy canuck 12-21-2015 05:56 PM

what sort of price ranges were the c2s, c4s and turbos going for then ?

I bought my C4 in 2011. It had 98k miles, price was $27k.

Thanks...was reading through that thread before I posted this, but because that starts around 07, I was looking for a more complete picture.

For example, when the 996 TT was launched in 01, and for a few years there after, prices must have come down pretty hard (i'm guessing), and then maybe went back up as guys realized that the 996TT was not all that it was cracked up to be..

and also, when the 997 was launched in 05, maybe the market breathed a sigh of relief that the round lights were back, and now with more modern conveniences - so maybe the 993 market dropped then ?

I think the price of these cars had less to do with the good/bad of the 996, but more with the fact that these were the last of the air-cooled cars. These were the epitome of Porsche's evolution of the air-cooled platform.

It's an over simplification but $30's for NB; $40's for WB; $60's for turbos; for a decent well sorted mid mileage example. Obviously lots of variations and outliers but all those models were available in those price ranges.

^^^this.

In 2010 money, a beautiful mid mile WB was mid $40's. Those same cars today bring twice that... Thanks God I got in when I did.

It's a car. A very robust & reliable one at that. I've done all of my own maintenance on the 993 for ten years and there's been nothing out of the ordinary.

What maintenance bills are you referring to?

Some people don't know any better than taking their car to the dealer where they will be anally raped. Do some homework and you may be lucky to find a shop that will not anally rape you.

July 2012 paid $35,000 for my 37,000 mile 95c2. People here posted I payed "full private retail" or maybe too much.

Rust under the front and rear window trim.
Worn motor mounts.
Re build/replace shifter and linkage.
Re build pedal assembly.
Replace window switches 4 times a year.
Replace front and rear bushings,
Uprights and springs.
Headlight switches every 4 years.
Endless trouble shooting of the resonance flap. ( Indy shop, one of the best )
Broken valve springs.

^ I know the window switches are made out of Doritos but damn, 4x a year? There's a simple DIY instead of replacing.
