Ah, the last of the true S-Class cars. I've always believed that series was the best that Mercedes came out with. The model that follows (present S-Class) featured too many compromised in quality and workmanship in order to remain price competitive.
There was a time when Mercedes built vehicles which really were over engineered; where the materials in the car were made to last a lifetime of ownership. These were cars that you could hand down from generation to generation like fine furniture! It's probably why their cars enjoyed such a strong second-hand market.
Take a look inside a 1995 E320 or a 1996 S-Class and you'll see an interior that still looks great. Everything from the dash to the seats and the switchgear have all held up well.
However, having driven a S coupe for a week (long story), it isn't really THAT much fun to drive. It feels rather large in the city and somewhat awkward when parking. However, it's fantastic on the highway. Just absolutely fantastic!
Thanks,
Peter
