Question Programming a new Alarm Remote?

Has anyone tried to program a new remote using the instructions on Robin's site? That looks like a trial and error type of thing.

I need to program a new remote. If anyone has tried it, any hints?

Thanks in advance.

I've done it a couple of times. Its not hit or miss, but because it is time sensitive it is hard to do if you are trying to read as you go along. Once you kind of get the sequence memorized (after a few failed attempts), it goes pretty smoothly.

Mark,

Chip is correct. Just takes some time and a few tries. Do it in the garage with the door closed, because you will be setting off the alarm.

Robin has a DIY posted that is a help (p-car.com/diy/remote). Combine this DIY with the owners manual info and make yourself a "cheat sheet" to refer to while in the heat of battle. That's what I did. I can fax a copy if you want. Let me know.

Thanks a lot, guys. The tough part is that it takes 41.5 (damn Germans) minutes. If I spend that much time in my garage, there is going to be beers involved. We are looking at more than a couple of tries.

Mike:

I'll PM you with my fax number. Thanks for that.

Just curious about this. We are talking about getting a new Remote Key programmed ? I rang my local ( UK ) Porsche shop as my new car had only one Key with it and I wanted another. I was told they could give me a key on the spot but the Remote programming would take 10days and cost about £50 ?? Is there a cheaper faster way ?

Hope this makes sense

I'm a bit puzzled about the 45 minute thing, since following the directions in my owner's manual, it only takes a few minutes to program the remotes to the car. This does assume you have the key code that came with the car.

The dealer can look up your key code from your VIN number. Mine cut the key right there from the blank he had in stock.

Programming the remote is easy after a few attempts. The directions are a bit obtuse - I believe they fail to mention that you have to close the door or the procedure won't work. Guess how I know!

I have requested that the wife not lose her key again.
