I'm trying to be patient. Been online looking for over a year. Had a couple I missed because I waited, one I missed because another member was local and drove over to see it on a Sunday and left a deposit, when my PPI was scheduled the next day. Don't know what the etiquette is but after that I just thought forget it! I was the first to call, agree on price pending PPI and he took a deposit.
Now I'm back in the hunt and ready if the right one happens to come my way!
The car that you missed out on probably sold to someone who didn't insist on a PPI.
I had a deal and lost one like that too.
Good luck with the search, I think a year is about average.
Oh, and from personal experience remodeled kitchens can cost way more than typical 993s.
I had a positive experience with LuxSport, I won the 1997 Porsche 993 Targa they had on eBay and bought it sight unseen and they did exactly as promised. I sent an immediate paypal deposit, wired them the money and the title arrived via FedEx next day. The car arrived three days later enclosed transport and was exactly as described. Maybe I got lucky but I was satisfied with their communication, the efficiency of the transaction and very pleased with my new car. I have heard good things about Holt but know their prices are very high. Good luck in your search. I am a newbie as well.

Boboyd there is plenty of reading available...
I lucked in my 993 C4S locally with no PPI but a large amount of recent maintenance. Unfortunately people start skipping inspections when the market is super heated. Anything to get an edge or make the transaction smoother.
You may have already done this...but if not, here is a suggestion:
Put an ad on CL indicating the basics of what you want. Forget about mentioning your favorite color. 6-spd, coupe, less than so many miles, well maintained, etc - whatever. Don't be too limited. Tell them you plan to keep it and drive it - not resell it. Post the add on 10 major metropolitan areas around the country - or start local, then cast further afield after a month or two. I did that and over the course of about 11 months, I got 15 or 18 responses. Many wanted more than my budget. Surprisingly, some owners have no idea about the recent rise in prices. Worked out good for me, I think. Very fortunate that the best deal turned out was only 60 miles away. The car was never listed for sale...

Normally, I might agree with you, but a quick view of his 15 posts makes him look like a new 993 Targa owner with much exuberance. No other shilling going on; looks like just a new kid in the candy store
Just need to do a better job inspecting the car when dealing with LS. I wouldn't necessarily write them off completely, just be more aware. After all, it's not like you can't get screwed in a private party sale.
