I have read horror stories about the rare occurrence when the engine lid release cable fails. Used a length of solid core steel galvinized picture hanging wire to create an emergency latch pull. From inside the compartment I drilled a small hole behind the driver side corner light housing and fished the wire through the space above the ligh fixture. Threaded the other end of the wire through the extra hole in the latch release lever and threaded a nut on the end of the wire as a stop. In this way when using the regular latch release cable the added cable doesn't bind. Coiled up an extra length of wire behind the lamp and reinstalled the corner fixture. Took all of ten minutes to do.

Not sure you have line of site access to do this. Have you done this before? My car has the Aero kit spoiler so the grill doesn't allow for this.
Great point, Andy.
I've absolutely done it... with the standard deck lid / electric spoiler. I read a thread here on RL discussing this mod before, so wanted to test out the "through the spoiler" latch release just in case. It's brain-dead simple.
With the Aero kit spoiler, you may not have the simple option. If anyone wants to donate a car to me with this spoiler, I'll happily take it to test this theory. You know, for the benefit of the community and all. Would prefer a '95 coupe.
I posted this on another thread but did not get a reply...
On the front trunk emergency release I'd heard that you may have to pull very hard to release the trunk lid. Who has had to do this..? I had my fender liner off (working on something else) a while ago and tried to pull the front trunk release cable and it would not budge, it didn't want to break something though.
No drilling is needed. There is also a factory cable that attaches at the latch and goes to the left hand tail light area. Issue is that the latch doesn't have a space for dual cables like the front so you'd have to modify.

Yep. My latch already had the attachment point in place. I simply ordered the cable from Porsche, routed it to behind the left light cluster, and attached it to the latch. No drilling and no modification required.
