I recently went through the exercise of replacing the windshield in my 1995 993. Driver's Ed and Club Racing really pits the heck out of glass. Anyway, the replacement window I ordered through the local dealer had some problems fitting. The installer stated that he understood the 1995 models din't use the same size as the 1996 - 98 versions. His book didn't support this though but sure enough, it doesn't look as if it fits properly. Anyone else have any experience with this?
As far as I've heard the windshields are the same except the later ones have a blacked out area around the mirror to stop the sun from coming in between the two visors.
Are you sure this isn't just a problem with the installer? See my recent thread on windshield replacement. Seems there is a huge difference in the skill level of installers out there.
parts manual shows different nos. after serial no. SS320897. SS is a '95 serial no.
I don't know the differences; they show no difference in the inner and outer frames, altho there is something called an "adhesive plate" that changes numbers with the windshield glass numbers.
As much as I'm saying with the copyright laws the way they are.
Jack;
The glass was OEM from the local Porsche dealer and the installer was the independent they use.
Ray;
My serial number is "SS320322" which is before your change number. I wonder if there was a difference in the way they were mounted. For instance, in older model 911's, the windshields were inserted and more or less held in place by the gasket. I understand that the 993's began gluing in the windshield.
Kim;
I'll have to research what gasket number they used on the install.
Thank you guys for all the input. I haven't been nearly as authoritative on these cars as you guys have been so the input is very useful. I just enjoy driving them!!!
