Default Black transmission oil after 1500 miles

A few months ago I changed the transmission oil to Redline 75-90 NS. A few days ago I brought the car in to have the input shaft lubricated and we took the transmission a part to inspect the synchronizers. Everything looks good except the oil was already very black. The transmission is a G5020 2 (option code 220 LDS/ABD)

What could be causing the fluid to turn black so quickly ?

Its the moly coating on the LSD plates wearing off. NS accelerates that.

Could also be the previous lubricant that varnished to the internals releasing into the new lube. Especially if the previous lubricant was in for a long interval.

Default What clutch pack for LSD

I need to replace the clutch plates in my 993 factory LSD. I don't think Porsche sells just the plates, does anyone know what parts I need to rebuild it ?

Edit : oops - I meant to start a new thread

That stuff is OK; I use Delvac these days.

That's the one and Suncoast is the best priced in case your shopping around. A group of us just put some in a few weeks back.

The 2nd option although more pricey is the Porsche Factory, which some believe is a Shell product.

Delvac works for me too in Texas heat. When colder, the box takes a little bit to warm up to provide smooth shifts.

I drain my gearbox annually along with my usual maintenance and the oil always looks amber - never dark. My 993 has the LSD/ABD setup and gets driven approximately 3,000 miles per year.

I've always used Delvac (and SHC previously). The gearbox shifts perfectly.

Same here. At approximately 1000 miles annually, I drain every 2 years. The Redline NS comes out amber.

You guys are draining your transmission fluid at 2000 and 3000 miles..? That's a bit of overkill, it will safely go a bit longer than that.

It's cheap insurance for me to see if anything is amiss with the transmission.

993 lsds use carbon clutches. Carbon is black. They wear out really quickly. Like 40-50k street miles quickly. Some of you with Amber gear oil probably have shagged lsds that are just acting open.

I don't like redline. It wears synchro quickly at the expense of feeling smooth on a cold morning. It's just too slippery.

Street car gear oil has a long life. 20-30k is fine. 5 years is fine. But if you have money to burn have at it.
