This. But paintet's tape, not just plain old masking tape. The blue or green.
+993 on the green tape, but last time I used it I needed alcohol to remove a thin line of residue left behind from the polish along the edge of the tape. Kind of defeats the purpose of the polish and wax.

See the number 12 sticker on the screen?
The seal i was initially talking about, it is the one directly under it, it runs from the mirror to the corner of the bonnet (ish)
Looking forward to seeing the pictures! I'll be washing my car this weekend too, but haven't the time or patience to do the entire proper clay/polish/wax routine.
Is there a specific place to upload the photos to?
And does my profile show an avatar?
I uploaded one - but i can't see it - or is it a case that you can't see your own????

Read through some of the "professional" details on our Concours Forum. Those guys typically wipe the car down with isopropyl alcohol after polish, and/or re-wash.

Correct. There is no problem with wiping an area (or the entire car) down with alcohol after polishing (before applying the wax). Remember, polish is not a layer like wax is. It's the process of sanding the paint surface smooth again before applying your "Last Step Protection" (LSP), which is wax, sealant or coating.
When I use tape, I try to keep the tape edge on the rubber/plastic parts only, so there is no line left behind on a painted surface. The other downside of having the tape edge on your paint is that your pad can sometimes grab little bits of the adhesive from the tape edge and smear it on the paint. Can sometimes cause more work.
