Default 993 Shape is never old

Today was a perfect morning for a cabriolet ... great excuse to take the long way to work. I was dead this morning, but the sound of the engine put a smile on my face. After picking up some coffee I walked out to see a TT parked next to me - what a car. And after getting to work I couldn't help but stare at my car for a while after walking clear across the parking lot. You know you're crazy about your car when you always turn back to check it out after parking. I just never get tired of looking at these cars. I can't imagine the 993 shape ever looking "old". I now have to save for my next Porsche from ground zero because I don't ever want to sell this one!

Following your logic, you wouldn't need to save any money at all. Why buy a new car when the 993 will always be the better looking one? At least that's what I'm thinking regarding mine!

Of course I wouldn't mind saving for a RS6 as the daily driver/bad weather car...

I've had two 73 911's (an S and an RS replica) and they never look "old" either...

Just a timeless shape...

I still miss my 3.2 Carrera. I've considered getting one at some point for my wife (or is it really for me?).

Another incredible benefit, you can take the car to the track and drive the wheels off of it. And at the end of the event, load her back up and head home in the comfort of a 6 CD player and good airconditioning. Every Porsche ever built is a race car...I still agree with that statement.

Martin,

I wonder if that statement is true of the NA 996 cars. It seems that they are not as robust as the air cooled cars or the 996TT, as far as track use. Is this true? Has Porsche lost the edge?

I've had people look at me with disbelief when I tell them that mine is a MY 95.

They think it is new!

The NA 996 engine uses a wet-sump oil lubrication system, under hard, extended corning load the pickup will run out of oil and this could result in a damaged engine. However, under normal street driving and on street tires this isn't an issue, only when you use slicks with tremendous grip does it become a problem. I'd say the 996 is a fairly robust car, the 996 C4S is damn sexy too

Zamirz,

I agree with the sexy shape of the widebody 996 cars. But the statement I was asking about was "every Porsche every built is a race car". I take this statement to mean on a race track with race tires. This is where the na 996 may not be able to measure up to that old statement.

I feel totally the same way with my 993. Sometimes when I park my car and walk away from it, i can see people that pass by my car stare at it. In fact I had my car parked next to a 996 and some people that passed by it stared at my car and practically ignored the 996. From the back the 993's shape is soooo much more sexxy.

I just read an article that Butzi Porsche the designer of the first 911 has a silver colored 993 Carrera 4 as his daily driver.

Perhaps I should also post this on the 996 board.

Of course our cars are sexy! That is a given. Our 993's are also becoming more distinguished with age. The sleek design is a classic and will always be eye candy to anyone, more so from enthusiast. I feel so lucky owning one.

A co-worker just leased a new 04/93T Saab. He loves it, me I don't get it. Oh well to each his own...

I've always had nice stereo's in my cars, but don't use it much in my 993. The natural sound is what I enjoy most. If fact, I think someone stole my CD wallet a few weeks ago (probably parked with the top down) but I'm not sure 'cause I haven't spent any time looking for them. They're just not missed.

I find this thread to be filled with a bunch of self-serving, mental masturbation.

A thrill comes over me whenever I walk up to the car, my current favorite view from the front three quarters. The 993 seems hunkered down, feral and sinuously wicked, while being paradoxically pretty at the same time. We are all *very* lucky

It's fun preaching to the choir.
