Question Import Duties and Taxes

I might be importing some car parts from overseas and I am trying to figure out roughly how much duty and import fees I will have to pay. The item is valued at about USD $800, it's for personal use and not resale.

So those of you who have imported items can you give me a rough estimate of duties and taxes? Like $25-50 or $50-100, or whatever.

As I recall, it is roughly in th 5-6% range. This will usually be billed by the carrier, and then sometimes there won't even be a bill. Sort of a hit or miss here, so you might get lucky.

For car parts, the US Import Duty is between 2.5% and 3% of the value + $5 handling fee.

Gert, I know you are the expert in duties and customs. When I bought my Cargraphic oil cooler from you earlier this year, it was in th $1500 range, and my duties with Airborne were approx. $80. Same holds true with the other shipments that you have sent. My bills to Airborne have been right in the 5% range. Considering I live it the tax hell of the country, I did not think this was too bad. Is Airborne tacking on any other expenses for processing??? You are the one that would know.

Thanks

Bob, if I was an expert in customs, I could import without anyone paying duties ;-) .
Before, we used DHL as courier but since a couple months we went to Fedex.
It's unlikely that they are charged other import rates, but I'll check it out anyway.

Thanks

Sorry, it was DHL not Airborne as I stated in my previous message. Amazing though, they arrived at EXACTLY 11:22 5 different times delivering packages..
