LOL.. pricing threads were as prevelant on this forum when I joined in 2001 as they are today.
Rennlist may be a technical forum but that's not all it is. It is a community of enthusiasts. A place for people to come to talk about their cars, arrange meet-ups, assist one another in finding or evaluating vehicles. A place where people buy and sell cars, parts, etc. And share stories from the road.
Some people use this forum for technical purposes. Others use it in a way that they appreciate.
But thanks again for your opinion and trolling a thread on a topic you clearly don't like.

Hey, wait... where'd the Official Polar Silver thread and 993Fest thread go? They were here a few days ago
to all the regular 993 Rennlisters, no matter what they look for on it.
Viking burial for me. And, I "ruined" the value of my car by customizing it. My bad. Sorry Porsche.

Thing is, where would we be today if those guys who first started tinkering with the first 356s............didn't? Can you imagine Rennlist (negative) v. 3.0?
"Will installing a camber compensator decrease the value of my pre-A?"
"Pros/cons of going 1.5L and a hot cam from some guy in LA"
"Regear the 519 or install junkyard 644?"
And of course "my buddy wrecked his Carrera Speedster on a canyon run and lucky he was wearing a seat belt--should I buy the wreck and put it in my DD Karmann Coupe?"
Why, oh why can't there be a separate forum for values?
Who the hell cares?
This. I'll admit I used to like value threads. I bought my GT3RS at the low point and a few months later it went up $30k. It was fun at first to log on, pat myself on the back for buying when I did and justify the purchase of my dream car to my wife. I was so busy doing it that I didn't see that 993 values were climbing too.
Now I find that I don't spend very much time on here because both the 997 GT3 and 993 boards are filled with thread after thread of value related questions and comments.
That said buying the RS was the best thing I ever did for my 993. Now it's my "beater" that I'm not scared to put miles on. If it burned to the ground tomorrow and I got nothing, it was worth the $3k a year to drive it over the past 10 years.

Talking about cars is fine. Talking about money is really boring.

Yes, it was an effort to keep pricing discussion to 1 thread as to not clutter up the forum with pricing crap. obviously not successful.
The current value of the car has definitely changed how I use it. I bought the car that was most desirable to me in my price range. If my C2S were stolen or wrecked I would not pay the price to replace it. But I don't want something else so I use it in a way that mitigates the risk a bit. I track the car less than half as often as I did ~2005 because I now buy track day insurance that doubles the price of the day. When I think about modifying the car I have to consider the impact to the value. Parts and service cost more. If the value of my car doubles again I will cash out and buy something I would be comfortable using the way I originally intended the 993 to be used.
How many of you joyful at the price gains are really driving the car as intended - back and forth to work, errands, track days? Perhaps a few. It is a car after all. The weekend "go-get-ice-cream" guys are usually the happiest with the big price increases.
As Panorama editor Pete Stout stated: When the price goes up the enjoyment goes down.
I haven't been on this board long but I've been on Pelican for over ten years - big shift in thread topics toward values over the last year or two. I've also seen an uptick in stolen car threads...
Bookend to my comments: I had a dream last night that I drove mine to "work". That's funny, in that I don't drive to work, unless you consider the airport my place of business-she's not gonna sit in a lot. At any rate, she was stolen. I was bummed about it in the dream, but mostly because I was going to have to sift through a bunch of over-priced and under maintained cars to replace it.
People say this or that car has low miles or extremely low miles.
Are there any hard and fast objective standard that exist to define or help define a low or extremely low miles car.
For example what would a 1998 C2S with 25K miles be referred to as in terms of milage.
It can depend on the car. A 911 with 25K could be considered low mileage, bordering on very low mileage. A Ferrari 355 with 25K would not be considered low mileage, possibly even scaring some buyers away.
The AuctionAmerica car is unsold at $105k. Hopefully 993 prices have reached a plateau and might start falling with the stock market weakness.
