Default Need Help to ID Part/Importance

I was doing some maintenance this weekend and I found this bent pipe, can anyone tell me what it is, and any thoughts about its possible damaging effects on the motor. Obviously it should be fixed, but my question is can it wait till I'm ready to do a full engine rebuild?

I don't know when this happened but, it doesn't seem to have happen the day of, the pipe looked oxidized (no shinny areas on the pipe). There is a film of oil on the pipe because, I ran my oily fingers over the bend in the pipe.

Help Please

This is one of the oil tubes that allows oil to drain from the heads back to the crank case. With it being bent that way it will impact the ability of the oil to flow back to the crank case but won't prevent it. It needs to be fixed but is not an emergency. If your heads need to be done that would be the time to do this.

Looks like a oil return tube, I would be replacing it. Can't be good for it to be restricted like that.

Thanks George, will the constriction in the flow of oil result in higher temps or will the bend have a minor effect.

Where can I get one of these "collapsible tubes" and how is the reliability of one of these, seeing that they adjust?

Again thanks for the help!

930-107-040-01 is the oem part number for the collapsible tube. From what i've seen, the reliability of the collapsible tubes is fine.

Cheap too at about $33 at sonnen or sunset.

Thanks that sounds great! Do I just drain the oil and pull out the tube? Are there any o-rings or seals that need replacing?

No need to drain oil. The new tubes come with o-rings.

Oooh, one of the almost weekly repairs we used to do in the '80s!

Yeah, collapsible tubes from the factory were a Godsend over the aftermarket (initial) solutions.

Thankfully there's more working room with the 993 exhaust, versus what came before where you had to remove (usually corroded) heat exchanger fasteners.
