Default center lens replacement?

Hi all,

I am considering buying a center lens. The passenger 'white' light shows some fading compared to the driver side. Not really noticable, but being meticulous and all, I would like to replace it for a new or Near new. But I will consider keeping it as is if replacing it requires too much work.

At the same token, while I am replacing the center lens, I'd like to get Euro taillights.

Any advise on the center lens...easy, hard, or not worth doing?

Very easy to do. And worthwile. The taillights are a one screw DIY and the center light has approx 6 screws? I just did my center light and did the euros some time ago. Good luck.

You have to remove the cover which has I believe 4 plastic screws first. There are then 4 screws on top and 3 crews recessed which hold the unit in place. A flat head and phillips is all you need.

I would try ebay as they do pop up from time to time. I got mine for $120.00, used but in great condition.

Would anyone happen to know the part number for the center lens? Is the center lens for a NB 993 be the same for WB 993?

Thanks in advance for you assistance.

adsC4s:

When installing the Euro taillights, is it true that the side marker light function is lost from the OEM NA taillights? If so, does this create any complications with wiring or what to do with a now-unused light socket?

Thanks.

Regards to all.

The part number for the rear center light is # 993-631-130-00. Porsche calls is a "covering". This is the part that goes between the two side lights (taillight, brake, signal) on LH and RH sides.

Looks expensive.

I believe that David is right about the Euro (amber) "combined lights" (that's waht Porsche calls the RH and LH side taillights). You will lose the "side marker" function that you have now.

David, you do lose the side marker light function because the actual "side marker is not pre-drilled to accept the light. I used a trusty dremel and created my own socket and then plugged the light in and I have a fully functioning side marker light. It was very easy to do.

That part number (993-631-140-00) also is refered to as a "covering" (same part). The only difference is that under "Model" it refers to "M576". No clue what this means.

If you have a fax number I can send you the illustration and part number listing.

Sorry for the dbl post. I do not know if C2 and C2S use the same part number for this covering. Like I said, looks like an expensive and complicated part - hard to believe that Porsche would manuf two.

Could that "M576" refer to widebody?

There is a used one on ebay right now. I do not have the link but you can do a search under Porsche 993 and then click on lights. Last night, it was at $100 with no reserve. Could be a better alternative than the dealer. There is also an ebay vender (msroadrace, I think) that periodically tries to cell the reflector for $249.
