Question Suggestions? Shopping for a roll around tool chest.

I could use some input here. I'm looking for a good roll around tool chest. Been to Sears-nothing hit me, although they had the best selection out to see at retail. Been online-but it's hard to judge without seeing and feeling these things first hand-there's a lot of wobbly junk out there. Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.

Check out Lista.com. Have a friend who recently put in a whole garage of built-in's for his new house. They look great and are fantastic quality. They also make roll-arounds.

Franklin -

Sears has different qualities of tool chests - IMHO the ball bearing ones are the ones to get, I'd stay away from the non-ball bearing ones. The selection in the tool catelog is greater - you may also want to join the Craftsman Club as you can get an additional 10% discount.

If price is no object then I'd go with Snap-on.

At the Costco here in Portland, OR they had a upper and lower two piece set that was stainless steel. I didn't check it out in detail, though from a 5 ft. distance it was real pretty. Looked like it belonged in a kitchen at a high end restaurant.

David, Randy-thanks for the tips.

After some much thought, and another trip to Sears, I'm thinking of the SK Pro Box (see link and scroll down).

http://www.skhandtool.com/productspotlight.htm

I figure I can fit all my general maintenance tools in it as well as some extra doo-dads. The 13" drawer is big enough for some power tools/detail stuff. I am not planning on doing any major repairs to my car-just some peripheral mods, etc..so this item seems to fit the bill. Also I do not need a huge roll around chest since I already have a shop in my garage/barn where I have storage and tools for anything else I might need. I think I'm talking myself into it-I do this with car parts too......

What do you guys think?

The Facom stuff is supposed to be really nice...if I'm not mistaken they make tools for the Ferrari mechanics. I think I recall a vendor that was able to offer discounts on some of the Facom stuff (Ultimate Garage?!?!).

The rollaway you pointed to is pretty sweet, esp as it has roller bearing drawars

When I was looking for a rollaway I knew that I would eventually buy more and more tools so was looking for ability for future expansion. That lead me to Sears Craftsmen, and the lifetime warranty and close location certainly helped.

Lista makes a nice box. Sears stuff is the Chevrolet of tool boxes and no more. If you really want the Porsche of toolboxes, and one that has high resale value, you have to go Snap-On. I like the low-deck Snap-On with a stainless steel top (what I have now).

My best buddy is a Snap-on dealer. Need a box on deal, check out www.snapon.com, pick one out and shoot me an e-mail for a price.

Duane - would you be able to get any other Snap-On stuff at a discount? Say for example a torque wrench

TIA

If durability and security is an issue for you than I would recommend a snap-on box. With their new locks they are very hard to get into. Though imo they are over kill for the home DIY guy.

Make sure it is well balanced so it falls over straight. Good square shapes are important too - easier to hammer back in shape.

These are for the one time you will forget to tie it down in the trailer.

Snap on tools. You bet. I can get most anything for you at 15% off suggested list on the Snap-On web site. I do it all the time for the 400 + guys on the mail list I run on Yahoogroups, "The UUC Garage". At one point we had cornered the market on 18V Cordless Impact Guns and bought about 200 of them (Only the best track tool ever made!).

I won't do it for the nickel-dime stuff like a single pair of pliers, or one socket, etc.,etc. as it's not worth the time and trouble for the little items, but for bigger stuff, do the item numbers on the web site at www.snapon.com and shoot me an e-mail to dcollie@keepingroom.com. Plan on 15% discount (some items can only get 10% like scanners). Shipping is additional of course, but no sales taxes and we do it with Mastercard / Visa on 90% of the sales. I make no money on these deals, I just help out a little as a favor to the car community.

drcollie-
I checked out the prices for Snap on-little too much $$ for me even w/discount, although I know Snap on makes a high quality product. I will keep your offer in mind for other things though-Thanks very much for the offer and advice.
David-
Facom tools are offered on the SK web site-I am assuming one is a division of the other (yes?). I will check out "Ultimate Garage" for kicks, although I know Griot's has Facom as well.
I ordered the SK unit late yesterday (price point falling a little bit between Sears and Snap on) from a local vendor-best prices with free shipping and next day delivery!!!! It will be at the house by time I get home from the office today-
