Default 993RS holes under front splitter? (yawn)

I'm determined to get to the bottom of this! Pics below are the 2 holes underneath my front splitter, they are infront of wheels.

Can anyone with a 993RS confirm whether or not:
1) Their holes are similar to mine (oooh matron)
2) Theirs have grills/slats in the holes

Thanks!

Brgds
Piers

Hi Piers

They are big aren't they? I feel a little silly now after suggesting they may have been fixing holes. You'd need a bloody big bolt to go in there....

Mine are standard as the pic shows in your previous post re "993RS weight Options". Front splitter with grills all one piece.

Are your front splitters RSR or Cup variants??

Piers,
Sorry I don't have a digital camera (my wife wanted a real one!! - shouldn't have listened to her!). As I have stated mine is with the slats not a gaping hole like yours. What is your vehicle VIN no - have you checked this to see if it is a RS VIN if not go to p-car.com and they have VIN nos posted there. I suspect that the previous owner must have taken out the slats on them - perhaps one or two got broken somehow so it was removed completely.

I don't kow if there is a grill or anything that is supposed to go in there, but I do know in your first photo that you are missing a screw to help hold on that nice RS splitter.

All numbers present and correct! But this is a mystery? Slats have not been broken off and I can't see how one could fit a 'frame of slats' into the hole.

I guess if one or two slats were broken then perhaps it made sense to remove the lot by cutting them out and filing it down until smooth so it looked balanced. Was the bimper painted/ touched up at the alleged sites?

I would have to agree with RS man, that maybe some have been cut out.You can see the edges where they once were in your photograph.
Mine are there as part of the moulding.....Maybe a stray cone on a track day broke one off ? I cannot see any real benefit for removing them to be honest.

Morning RS people!

I can't see/feel evidence of slat removal, no rough edges etc.

But is the 'shape of hole' and 'fin' next to hole and depression which retaining screw goes into correct?

Thanks!

Piers,

this is an aftermarket front spoiler / bumper.

It is made of fiberglass ( i think by DP Zimmerman )
On these parts the grill is always missing because a stainlesssteel net will be glued in after the part is painted.

I have the same part on one of my race cars.

You have to put a grill or stainlessdteel net in because otherwise stones my damage your oilcooler !!!

Regards

good to find out the reason....but why would you fit an aftermarket non Porsche part on an RS which looks similar to the Porsche original?

So the secret is revealed, Piers!

No grill though, that seems a bit strange....?

Perhaps the same person that installed the splitters also forgot to put the lights in the roof spoiler............

Are you going to revert to original parts or fill the slats in with wire mesh?
