I have a 1996 Targa with 17" stock cup design wheels. Tire rack and the Porsche bulletin shows the front tire size as 205/50/ZR17. I currently have P zero's on the front which are 225/45/ZR17. Backs are 255/40/ZR17 as shown in the technical bulletin.
Putting on PSS10, lowering a bit below stock, changing to Sumi III's and having a wheel alignment.
Question - Should I go back to the stock size in the front? I am not really sure why I have different size. Maybe just a discount tire screw up.
Any advice would be appreciated.

In my old 993 I had the same setup as you 225 front and 255 back and it was amazing !! A little bump steer more, but very little or no understeer....
In my "new" 993 I have stock 205 front and 255 rear... The steering is lighter and more responsive, but there is understeer in the front... Oversteer is less imminent in this setup...
Between the two, I prefer the first to the later... So keep 225 in the front, in my opinion...

My car came with Sumi III and I hated them. Recommend you reconsider that choice. Swapped them for Michelin PS2 and find my handling a little sharper, wet traction better and ride a lot smoother. I know they're rated ok in some tests but it puzzles me why anyone would put such cheap tires on a nice car.
The car came with 205 and many replaced them with 225s upfront for less understeer.
Having said that, OP's description is all over the map. What is it that you want to do with the car, what's important to you? Right now you are throwing money at lemming uniform. It might work for you, but now's a good time to consider what you really need and want out of the car so you don't end up throwing that money at it twice.

[QUOTE=MD993;12354381A little bump steer more, but very little or no understeer....[/QUOTE]
...indicates poor alignment job in my mind. Should never have bump steer on properly set up 993.
I have 18's and am wondering how a well set up 17" or even original 16" wheel set would be like. There's a lot of unsprung mass added for bigger tires/wheels - almost 100lbs total for 16 to 18 conversion. What does that do to acceleration, suspension & steering wear?
In my driving (mostly street, some AX and track) I'm not finding I'm lacking traction but I'd like some more low RPM get-up-and-go.
