How cold is cold?
I've just read a thread which mentions 993's AC .
There were few days recently when the temperature reached 95 degrees here....kinda unusual for this location...It is when I had to rely on AC to cool myself down
Well...comparing to other cars I had in past the AC wasn't "ice cold"...rather it took a while to cool the interior...it never made me freezing...by other words I wouldn't mind if it would cool the air by another 10-15 degrees down...
The car I have is 1995..may be it doesn't perform as it used to be (when it was brand new) because it is now ..well...8 years old (actually it was built in 94..so it makes it 9 years old)...but the mileage is just 14.000...
The AC in my 97 993 is the worst in any car I have owned. Luckily I live in Ireland and the UK where it is not needed that much but on a recent trip to France it was useless.
I dont know if it is just that way or there is something wrong with it......
cheers
I am in Washington DC and it hits the high 90s every year. Neither my 95 C2 nor my 97 4S had any trouble keeping things cool at any time.
My current 97 TT however has been diagnosed with the dreaded "failed resistor" issue for the fan AC and the oil cooler fan. On the move the car is fine but anytime you need the fans in slower traffic it feels somewhat ineffective.
Also, all A/C systems deteriorate over time and most loose charge pressure to some degree or other. I think any 993 is now a potential AC patient and lower mileage is probably worse since the AC seals tend to dry out if not used. I bet the manual mentions it somewhere.
My (now gone) Grand Cherokee had a good AC but needed a fix of some sort every spring when it reached 3 years. The Benz I acquired to replace it, now that is a poor AC...
