Default V1 laser alarm triggered by Nissan M45

On our return trip from Fla we experienced a bizarre V1 radar anomaly.
Our laser alarm kept going off, and with some weaving in/out of lanes
we were able to determine that it was caused by a brand new Nissan
M45. I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience? Could
this be some "adaptive cruise control" feature on the new Nissan? Our
laser was triggered only when the Nissan was in the same lane as ours,
either in front or in back, and when no cars were in between us. Distance
mattered as well. If we were more than 15 or so car lengths ahead, the
alarm did not go off.

Regards,
Gregg

My V1 goes off when I'm behind Chevy Trailblazers and GMC Envoys. The Valentine 1 website has a bit of info on it.

At least I know it's working.

Ok, went to the Infiniti website. Here is a little info on their wonderful new
cruise control (similar to mercedes). It was a serious PITA, ughhh.
As these adaptive cruise controls proliferate, it will render the current
V1 Laser detector useless.

It's like cruise control, only smarter. Using a laser sensor, the optional Intelligent Cruise Control* system scans the road and detects vehicles ahead. If cars slow, it automatically decelerates and/or brakes. When traffic clears, cruising speed is resumed.

Right, and the brakelights are so powerful that they set off his V1 even when he's 10 car lengths IN FRONT of the car.

adaptive cruise control is my best guess. Checked www.infiniti.com, that model does offer 'intelligent cruise control'.

That's all we need - something to make folks on cell phones pay even less attention to what's in front of them. "Why bother? The car drives itself."

I've also noticed that some other radar detectors cause false non-laser signals in my V1.

I agree with you Anir. The whole auto industry is going in the wrong direction of "luxury".

What they are forgetting is that we are all piloting our 3000 pound missles along the streets. It's not a time for luxury, it's a time for people to pay attention!

The navigation systems are another rapidly spreading source of distractions to drivers.

frosting on the cake: Toyota is testing a car that will park itself using laser distance electronics. I agree with most, the less we as a society demand from motorists, the less we will get from them. Very disappointing IMHO

Does anyone know if the new Semi-Truck Transponders used to bypass weigh stations can cause false positives on the V1 X-Band? I've had a number of experiences on Interstates where I get a reading of Bogey (X-band) ahead and as soon as I pass an 18-wheeler the marker goes to bogey from behind (X-band) and persists, intermittently, for miles. This is quite annoying when rocketing down the highway listening to the purr of the engine.
Thanks,

My DVD player's remote control is also good for triggering the laser detector.

Sometimes, I can get my V1 laser detector to go off by putting the pedal to the metal. It is not consistant, however.

Default de-evolution

Jeff993TT:

I agree with you. Soon some of us will degenerate into infants that don't know whether we are coming or going. We need more demands on our attention, not less. The fit animals are the ones who can respond effectively and immediately, and with self reliance and responsibility, not blubber butts.
Operating a machine (automobile) is not the same as sitting in your living room watching the world go by. It seems as if we as a species are seeking to relinquish more and more of responsibility for our actions, and it can only weaken us.

Wow Jeff... Interesting derivation from simple comments on the V1... I'm not sure where you are headed with your post.....neat looseness of association and combination of the theory of evolution with and nice blend of cognitive/behavioral philosophy....very abstract and in probable need of existential interpretation or maybe "I just don't get it"..........
