I inspected it with the mechanic and could find no cracking or signs of anything. Most of the black wire bundle wrap was still on but... not a thing. Really paid attention to where the alternator wire hookups were too. Mine was one under recall...Guess I am lucky.
My personal mechanic inspected mine as well and it didn't have any problems. However I still took it in to the dealer to get the new one in for peace of mind. Should be getting the car back tomorrow =).
The way it was explained to me by the dealer (Barrier for Randy...) is that they don't make the replacement decision based on wear but simply the seriel # of the harness. So if the harness is pristine but within a "bad SN batch" that is prone to cracking, it'll get replaced.
Mine get's replaced on Monday. 2 day job, dealer was nice enough to honor my request for free loaner...maybe the the upcomming brake job they quoted on was the incentive?.... ($1500 for 4 pads and rotors...)
Tone...Good job on the loaner, I didn't think to ask as I don't drive every day. My car is almost ready for rotors and pads also but that price is high,Wow...might have to sell my first born. Glad to hear that your getting the harness taken care of.
Just dropped mine off.
Dealer says they have seen only one so far that was so bad it caused any problems. They seem to indicate Porsche is just being conservative.
Took my 95 993 in yesterday Wednesday with the recall papers. I got a call this morning telling me that the wiring harness needs replacement but the car will not be ready until Monday. Explanation: PCNA supplies the VIN and owner of eligible cars in the area. Harnesses will only be stocked if there are greater than 3 names on the list. They had only 2 names for my dealer (Champion in Tallahassee)one of which was not mine. Therefore they had to order a harness for me. The moral of the story is: if your car is eligible make sure they stock the harness before you make the appointment so that you do not have to wait 5 days. It seems that buying this car and 2 others from this same dealer offers me no name recognition.
Had my car at the dealer on Tuesday for the recall - they checked the harness, ordered one, washed my car and told me they would call when the harness came in. Not too bad as far as I'm concerned.
BTW, I paid ~$600 for front brakes (rotors included) at Andial last year. So $1500 for front and rear seems way out of line.
