Back Up Light Lens
I just noticed that one of the clear back up lenses in the tail light assembly looks new, like it was replaced, while the other is old and faded. I thought I would get another new one so they look similar. Can't seem to find any! Anyone know where to obtain these and are they normally replaced? Someone must have done one of mine at one point for reasons unknown.

Without seeing what you mean, it sounds like you may just have a loose light bulb and dirt or something got inside the lense. I'd just pull the whole rear assembly and clean it. You'll probably need to do this anyway to replace a lens.

I do plan on taking the centre piece out. The problem is I wanted to purchase the clear backup lens before I remove the centre section. I am not able to locate the small rectangular clear backup lens. Looks like it's pressed in, not sure till I can get it out and look at it. Was hoping someone here would know how to remove one, install one and very importantly know where to buy one.
Photos not the best but I think you can see what I mean.

The backup lens section is part of the centerpiece. To replace one, you have to replace the other. If you do, plan on dishing out $400-500. Believe it is part # 993.631.140.00.

Ok, will check that out. One looks brand new the other is faded and looks 20 years old. It really looks like one was replaced somehow. Maybe at one point in the cars life it parked in a spot where the sun hit one and not the other. It's very odd. I have looked at obtaining the entire section but there is nothing wrong with it other than the backup light lens. The backup lenses are not formed with the main centre section but look as though they are pressed in after. Thinking that to be the case that is why I was trying to find some.

If you find a replacement back-up lens section, you will be the first to do it in 20 years. Chances are someone put a bulb of way too high wattage in the faded one and/or there was water/condensation in the darker one. Try polishing it out from the outside first, then, try some brake/parts cleaner on the inside. Otherwise, you'll be replacing the entire center section just like the rest of us.

I've had good luck with Meguiar's Plast-X Clear Plastic Cleaner and Polish. It looks like most of your "dullness" is on the inside. This could get a little tricky because you may not have a smooth surface to work on and it might be difficult to get to the area. I would still try polishing before replacement.

Make it 5 for saying you got moisture in there at some point. Try this thread. Post 17. Your lens has a nice sheen, I'd say it's worth saving. Or if you don't feel like it, I'd bet you could get close to $200 for yours to offset the cost of a new one.

Well I did pull the assembly out. The backup light area was dry as a bone. It looks like someone was in there before and split the unit open so the little plastic clips were all broken. Think I'll just buy a new unit. I did try to clean it but it made no difference, even a toothbrush to the inside surface did nothing. I know its hard to see in the pictures but one side is like brand new the other totally shot.
Thanks for the feed back.
