I have developed a "tapping" noise in my '95. My initial thought was a hydraulic lifter. However, after reading through the many posts on this board on that topic, I did not see any that described my symptoms exactly.

Here's what's happening.

Below 2k rpm. no discernible tapping sound

2k - 3k rpm. tapping sound builds, becoming loudest at around 3k rpm

3k - 4k rpm. tapping sound diminishes

above 4k rpm. no discernible tapping sound

Hydraulic lifter or something else???
