Ed-- Sapphire looks happy out in her new mountain surroundings

Steve-- Good to hear from you! Not too surprising that Rod Emory prefers their 2nd location, closer to L.A. business.
A high-desert drive to where it all started in McMinnville's a good excuse for fun anytime

Very surprised & saddened when a mutual friend called to confirm the bad news tonight.
I last met up with Tom Anderson & his son just 3 short months ago, right before the aggressive cancer hit. Tom was full of life that day, enjoying a special-order new Boxster.

Really treasure Tom & his son's friendship since meeting them 2 years ago. Asked Tom about his victory with PAG/PCNA allowing his dealership's "Carrera Motors" name.
He sold it a year ago; now "Porsche of Bend."

To their credit, the new owner slips in 1 notable nod to their heritage among all of the modern Porsche pics on Bend's homepage:

Tom's Emory Special.

Beautiful Oregon air-cooled scenery to get us back on topic...

To a great man I never saw without a smile & a Porsche.
He left a legacy of a wonderful family & much more

I'm very saddened to hear that Tom passed away. He was really a good guy and a genuine enthusiast who viewed the Porsche business as a passion, not just a venue to make money.

Carrera Motor's customer service was tops and that was all due to Tom.

Default Sisters

Ed,
Are those spots on the pavement, remnants of the bottle of Balvenie 14yo Carribbean Rum Cask age scotch, you spoke of previously?

Nice shot of Three Sisters in the background!

Speaking of great memories...
It's no coincidence the Bend Bulletin's obituary shows a photo of Tom Anderson, R.I.P., in a 356 with a smile and goes out of the way to say, "Tom enjoyed cars, particularly Porsches."
A mutual friend invited me on a memorial drive for him this week, & 1 of Tom's children shared this:
In Memoriam . . . Tom Anderson 1943 - 2015

Paul Thomas Anderson (Tom) passed peacefully last week after a short but brave battle with cancer. Tom and his wife Karen were founding members of the High Desert Region PCA in central Oregon over thirty years ago and remained active as a huge supporters of club activities through their Porsche dealership in Bend, OR as well as on a personal level. Carrera Motors in Bend grew steadily over the 32 years of the Anderson's ownership and became a haven for like-minded enthusiasts.

Tom semi-retired last year and got to know lots of our members. He valued his friendships more than I can possibly explain and was so thrilled to have found "his people"! He is survived by his wife, sons, and his daughter. Those who knew Tom know that he is now at the great racetrack in the sky. He is in a place where there is nothing but a manual transmission, the tires never wear and the brakes never fade. God speed Dad, thanks for instilling in me the passion for Porsche cars and the people that drive them.

If you do any McKenzie HWY runs after the gates open let me know. Thats where I stretch my cars legs when I actually get around to driving it.

Usually opens mid-June but with the extremely dry winter, will probably open sooner. Have fun getting acquainted with Bend, its very unique and nice. Also Crux and Bend Brewing are my favorite beer places so far.

Ed!

Bend is awesome, love the whole area.
My family and I will be there this summer... we go up every year.

Slower traffic keeps right.
The tax dollars spent on road maintenence must be 10x what is done here in California.
Great outdoor concert series.
People are very active in a variety of outdoor activities.
The state park system is awesome.
The Oregon plate on my GT3 is an abbreviation of Deschutes, in honor of the beautiful river
As already mentioned by others, hiking, biking, kayaking.... I love the area.
Can you tell?

Can't wait to get back up there in a few months

And you live there. Congrats on the move!

We may make the same move some year...

We are trying to take it all in, but there's a lot. My zany travel makes it harder, but we're scoping out restaurants and such each week, and have done some hiking. With 30+ breweries in the area, that survey work takes time too!

Mark, that is fantastic that you've got such an affinity for the area. Please be sure and let me know when you're up here, so we can try and meet up.

We've got tix for the Doobie Bros as well as Pink Martini at the amphitheater. I'm also supposed to get some fly fishing instruction in June, so that may be a new hobby for me.

The primary reason we moved to this place, was the fact it offers so much, and houses are almost free. This helps me move my retirement up a couple of years. THEN, I'll be able to partake in so much more.

Cheers!
