I have always admired the photos of the cars from DS. However, when I was looking for my P-cars, I did not give them any consideration. Why? Because of the BBB complaints. Sure, some are mistakes, disgruntled buyers, etc but in a business where customer service skills are all important, 30+ BBB complaints are simply too many. It is encouraging to hear some good experiences.

I am not doubting your experience with DS but as the other here have, am questioning your motivation.

It appears you did a search on DS and came across that rather long post where DS was interacting. Did you think your one good experience would offset the "attitude, arrogance, stupidity" displayed by DS in that post?

Berkley, Silver Bullet, BINS, JohnFM,

Thank you for your comments and I certainly do understand that one positive experience will not dull the pain that others have endured (it was not the intention). I too hope the car works out in the future and eventually I find the time and money to turn it into a POC racer. I'm already dreaming of a 3.6L twin plug. In the meantime, it will be a daily driven street car for the foreseeable future. The title came FEDEX as promised and I get whacked at the DMV tomorrow for registration and taxes. Thursday the car goes to Vision Motorsports (I am an old friend of Dwain Dement the owner, we worked at Andial together many years ago) for the major service and alignment. I am sorry that you also apparently had a bad experience with Schmitt, seems to be the norm unfortunately.

I too would have preferred to purchase a car from a private party (preferably PCA member) but there was nothing out there that I was interested in other than the car from Texas that I made an offer on.

IF I would have seen all of this feedback on Schmitt BEFORE I spent money doing a buyers inspection with Reid Vann and BEFORE I bought an airline ticket, I most likely would have passed over them. I don't care if any of you ever buy a car from Schmitt or not, but why ridicule me just because I had a positive experience with them? Yes, I did see the topic where DS was interacting (that was the primary one that I read since it was most recent), and yes I thought he/she did a great job of evading people's questions. Why did this person from DS that was interacting with all of you never reveal their name? In my opinion, they were better off not even responding, they just dug themselves a deeper hole.

Williert1342, I am not sure your e-mail even justifies a response, but I am pissed that you can sit there behind your computer and essentially call me a liar, so I will respond to your questions:

1. 993 rennlisters. Why? Because that is where my buddy in Texas told me to look for alot of dirt on Schmitt. I've subsequently searched most of the other forums, and there is dirt on Schmitt in others as well, but the 993 forum seems to have the most complaints by far.

2. First Porsche driven? No. First Porsche owned? Yes. While at Andial, was fortunate to drive a 959, '73 Carrera RS, Carrera 4 with 962C powerplant, Carrera 2 Cup Car and a few other interesting cars. Not making a case for anything or anybody, just telling people that I am apparently the only one other than GTR 993 who has had a postive experience with Schmitt.

3. Yes, I had heard of Rennlist in the past and browsed topics in the past relating to gears and differentials. I currently work for Autotech/Quaife America, who many of you know build racing gearboxes, differentials and gearsets for a wide variety of cars, including Porsche. I am not sure how this justifies a lie???

4. See #1

You know what, I too have had enough. This is pointless. I came on here as a new Porsche owner excited that I didn't get burned by DS and I get picked apart by some "holier than thou" guy who apparently knows all about me and my motivations? If this is the way that you treat all new people who chime in, why would anyone even bother doing so?

Ralph Hollack
Still happy '88 Carrera owner but perplexed by attitude problem of williert1342.

Geez - in a perfect world I would have bought my C4S from a local PCA member in the exact color combo I wanted and for the price I could afford. Unfortunately, I don't live in a perfect world so I had to scour the internet for months to find a polar silver/black/higher miles car for not alot of money ($40,500). Nothing turned up from a PCA member but one car in NJ that turned out to have alot of problems, and the condition of the car didn't work for me when I drove 5 hours RT to see it.

Then and only then did I find my car - but it turned out to be at Luxury Motors - a place I was warned about in a few posts on Rennlist. I did my homework and through the help of some great people on this list, it was looked at by 2 Rennlisters 750 miles away from me, photographed, described in full detail, and I even got the previous owners name and called him out of the blue to learn more about the car. It was with this info that I felt confident buying it from a dealer semi-sight unseen by me.

It can work. Even from a place that others have had problems with.

As for williet1342, you might want to rethink posting messages that are so negative . My mother told me that if I didn't have anything nice to say, don't say it. I don't remember that all the time by any stretch of the imagination, but I do try to make amends after I've done the harm .

Wow, tough crowd. Granted, it was Ralph's first post. But, I saw nothing in the tone of his post that made me suspect it was bogus, or meant to gain advantage for an acquaintance or business associate. (My scam sensor didn't go off.)

Heck, I could see myself doing the same thing, if I (inadvertently) purchased a car from a dealer with a hideous reputation, but wound up having a good experience nonetheless. In the name of objectivity and fairness, to let people know that not every customer has had a bad experience. Not an attempt to persuade people that the dealer is okay and the place to buy. Again, a matter of fairness and objectivity.

GEEZ i just wanted to road trip w/ my dad to cali. regardless i neg. them down 3k and bought the car... only to find out (when washing it @ home) the linty spot on the top was a patched cut and there was a slight crease between the door and frnt 1/4 panel... think one of their monkeys closed the door on a elec. cord when preping the car for drive away!!! BUT HEY... I'M PICKY!! just was pissed & they kinda had me over a barrel after flying over there so i bit it and bought it. THEY WERE JUST DECEPTIVE... THAT'S WHAT KINDA' PISSED ME OFF... still got a tight /dry 14k mi. 993 cab that is getting the repairs &TLC it's wanted... & by end of summer i'll be posting pictures...

The title of this thread reminds me of an immortal quote from one of my favourite films:
