Post Fuel-filler cap

I had to buy a new fuel filler cap as my old one had been dropped by the previous owner and the threaded section was chipped and cracked. I was afraid that a piece may break off and fall into the fuel tank, hence I bought a new one.
The new one is bright red in colour and the threaded section is made of metal as opposed to the all plastic old version. Also the old one would spin/click freely once torqued up to a certain point which this new version doesn't seem to do.
I would be interested to hear what some of you guys have on your cars? ie. colour and material.

many thanks

Francesco

My fuel filler cap is red plastic and the thread is metal and it will spin freely and make the clicking sound when it is tighten.

Robin

It seemed strange to me as here in the UK red represents the old 4 star leaded fuel. If a car has a coloured fuel cap these days it tends to be green to represent unleaded.

Anyway, thanks for the reply and I can sleep better knowing that we both have red fuel caps and a crunchy 1st to 2nd gearchange when cold !!!!

Robin and I welcome you with open arms!!

Guys
maybe we can start sub-divisions within the 993 board for cars with similair niggles!
i.e.
If you have a crunchy 1st to 2nd when cold, a red fuel filler cap, click here.

If you have a crunchy 1st to 2nd when cold, a red fuel filler cap AND a creaky windshield, click here!

regards to you both

Francesco

I'll have to take choice 2 representing "all of the above." as my '97 C2S has the trifecta of crunching from 1st to 2nd when cold, red fuel filler cap and the infamous creaky windshield.

What do you think of your X5 and which engine do you have?
I think that it's an awesome machine and my only criticism is that the steering is too heavy (4.4 Sport)around town.............oh and that stupid extendable/retractable boot cover !!!!!!!

You mean that's not a given?

Like we used to say about our 1500hp Detroit Diesels on the 82' SF: "If it ain't leakin' oil, it ain't a GM"

- Red metal cap, metal threads.

- Crunches from 1st to 2nd (no wait, that's my Acura - 140K miles)

- Won't start (sorry, that's my Suburban - 88K miles)

- Squeaks (oops, that's my Miata)

Seems my P-car is kickin' butt on my others in the "niggles" dept

Francesco,

I have the 3.0 engine (couldn't bring myself to spend the extra $ for the 4.4 when it's mostly my wife driving it. In spite of going the cheap route, we love the vehicle EXCEPT for the *%@&^! cargo cover...we simply removed the stupid thing. Probably the most poorly engineered thing I have ever seen on a German vehicle.

No Jag, but there was an Austin Healy with all the jokes:

Lucas electric has a three position swith for the lights - Off-Dim-Flicker.
Why do the Brits drink warm beer - Lucas refrigerators.
etc
