Are you trying to say you're a glass is half empty kinda guy?
So dont put yourself 2 hrs from home at 11 pm, till you know you have confidence you solved the problem! Do I need remind you of the age of your car and almost any of its critical systems can have a failure that may leave you stranded?

I'll change my dme, examine the old one and stay close to home for a few runs.
Now yer thinkin

Dme changed for a new one (although this one doesn't have the Porsche part number stamped on it). The old one looks new on the inside to me.

Did you inspect the solder joints with a jewelers loop or good magnifing glass?
