Hot Day: Definition?
While researching for new tires I see the phrase; "hot days".
Just what is a hot day when defining same as it relates to tire wear or grip and performance?
For example I read the the RE 11 gets greasy and loses grip when hot. I'm interested in this tire but would like to know what hot means with greater specificity.
When speaking in terms of hot are people referring to temp of pavement in hot sun, temp of pavement in shade, temp of pavement on asphalt or pavement that is concrete, air temperature, temperature of tire.
I live in SC and I know when it's 100 degrees F. it's hot.
Could this be clarified?

You'd have to go by experience and your level. It's not only the air/surface but also how hard and for how long you are pushing the tire. I, as a beginner, may never overheat the trie as a semi-pro would.
Are you considering R11 for track use? Have you looked at r888?

the term, when a tire gets how, is usually in reference to being used at the track or autocross where you are pushing the limits of the car repeatedly. To your question, it means the temp of the tire itself is getting hot. It would be very rare to ever encounter the "greasy" tire feel on the street. The RE11 is a good dual purpose tire for many that go to the track since it can take the repeated heat cycles of a track environment very well. I use an older version of this tire as my rain tire at the track since it has good traction in the wet.

For street use there are more economical alternatives. I'm happy with S04 on my 4S, but would definitely give a shot to Sumitomos esp. for street use. They are great tires that I've seen on many 993s.

we typically start spraying our tires down between autocross runs when it's in the 80s or higher, but it really depends on what the pyrometer is saying.
You'll feel them start to slide and get slippery when they're too hot. Take a cool down lap and they should come back.

if not, no need to worry about "hot days"
