Hi Anir,
Wow, experiencing "the crunch" at only 14k miles. Bummer! My subjective impression is that most people have many more miles than that before complaining of the crunch--or notchy gears.
I remember when I first bought my car, when it had just under 14k miles. Everything about the (then 5-speed) trans. was perfect! Somewhere in the 30k(+) miles, I experienced my first when cold crunch. And, I can still remember distinctly my first notchy gear, at just under 37k miles. Fortunately, the trans. quickly reached a plateau, and things never got worse.
At 100k miles, I replaced my 5-speed with a 37k miles 6-speed. It behaves similar to my old 5-speed.
Of course, in So. Cal it never reaches 35F. Perhaps if it did, I would have noticed the crunch much sooner?
