Default Rothsport

Anyone see any value or have experience with

911/964/993 Oil Inlet Check Valves

Rothsport Oil Inlet Check Valves eliminate oil migration from the oil tank to the engine reducing excessive smoking on start up typical of cars that sit for long periods of time.

993 (95-98) Oil Inlet Check Valve
SKU: RS-29B
Price: 299.00

Yes, but thats a big ouch for an oil check valve!

Shouldn't be to difficult to source a check valve to perform the same simple function, less the $250 profit margin.

It shouldn't be too difficult to inlet/outlet pipe adapt this unit below.

Yep, a couple NPT nipples and a ball, you're there.

Because Gamroth is getting rich...

McMaster & Carr will probably be an easy source to make one.

Agreed...No rocket science being applied here. Grainger would be another source.

Oh, OK...if you insist. Your search engine broken?

Why yes, yes there is...The only difference is the DIY is not on a 993, but the process is there, and you will have to spend way less on the entrance fee of the valve.

I'm thinking a guy could fix up some 5/8" braided hose after cutting the oil line in question. Adapt over from AN to NPT and run over to Home Depot.

The plumbing guy there could easily fix you up with a NPT ball valve for a buck or two.

Simple install with a bit of pipe dope and a hose clamp or two (get extras)...

Open the ball valve for everyday use, merely reach beneath to close it if you intend to park the car for over a week or three.

A sticky on the tach will remind you to open it before starting.

No sense at all purchasing a jewel like part designed and proven for its specific use and thus contributing to its maker's retirement fund as we all KNOW he's rich, right?

We also know that Chinese AN fittings are milled perfectly every time, right?

I'd be careful fabbing up your own part. If it doesn't work, you've destroyed your engine. High downside risk here.

Yes, the plumbing would be easy, but a ball valve provides the opportunity to forget to turn on the oil flow to the engine, and that's catastrophic!

Just do the job correctly with an appropriate (valve capable of handling max flow + 1/2 for engineering safety purposes) stop check (one way valve) and never have to give it a second thought.

The primary point here is you don't need to spend.$300, for good $40 valve and a couple of hose clamps.

I spent the first 5 yrs of my time as a mechanic/machinist at LB Navy Shipyard, repairing, reworking, machining all the various valves used in Navy ship applications, so I know a little about the subject, and the simplicity of the upgrade.

Any who are not comfortable with this suggestion, by all means, purchase the Rothsport offering and enjoy!

Despite the China mfg. these are so simple, they would be difficult to screw up. At the link below, you can have the valve sized, labeled, piped (threaded or non-threaded for our application), and a cracking pressure of 0-? as you so desire. Flow would be based upon size.

Thats been the main solution for this problem since 1978, but I've seen quite a large number of ruined engines by people who forgot to open the ball valve before starting.

Thats precisely why Rothsport designed and made that part.
