Unhappy Rufus is dead! Long live Rufus!

As most of you know, Rufus was involved in an awful wreck and was totalled. I have been devastated by this loss, which is amplified by my close ties to Rennlist for over 12 years. In that time I have made many friends and have been entertained and occasionally maddened by this forum.
I have thought long and hard about what to do to replace Rufus, and have come to the conclusion that for me, at this time in my life, I will close this chapter and not try to rebuild Rufus on a new tub. I have decided to sell Rufus to Todd at LA Porsche Dismantlers. He has promised that he will rebuild Rufus (in Arena Red) on a new tub and keep him for his personal collection. Further, he promised to keep me posted on the progress. A sad day to see him go, but life is all about change.
For those that wondered, my State Farm Stated Value insurance has worked exactly as I hoped, and I should have my payout tomorrow. It only took this long because I stalled trying to determine what to do with the salvage.
I appreciate the concerns most members have expressed for MY health, and rest assured, I am fine. Pretty remarkable for a 73 year-old buzzard.
I will miss Rufus, and almost as much, I will miss my fellow Rennlist Nitwits.
Stay safe my friends.

Steve: ****e! Todd is a good guy and has some great cars. That is good. The bad is you are an inspiration. I wish you the very best and if you need a Ruf fix you are welcome to use BTR to clear the need. I do understand your reasoning in wanting a change in your middle-age years.

Sad indeed, I remember meeting you and Rufus on the Pasatiempo off-ramp one Saturday morning. Fun times.
Even if you don't get another 993 hope you'll stick around.

Steve-- Although a tough decision, I'm sure this will be a cathartic move forward. I'm thrilled you have your health after Rufus' demise & that insurance is working out well; can't wait to see what's next for you.
Rufus has inspired thousands. IMHO, you & your Ruf are 993s' ambassadors to the world

^^ Though he's no "Old Fartus Emeritus" (AKA Steve), Todd made a great first impression:

When asked about 993 Turbo S parts, he personally drove me to check out two Turbo Ss in his private collection. Was obvious they were very treasured to him.
For more evidence of his love for rare air-cooled Turbos, there's also the story of "Speedball," his turbo-charged 964 Speedster. I'm not surprised he's interested in resurrecting Rufus.

P.S. Sid-- Get my responses to your PMs?

We are all glad to hear that you did not get injured Steve. It's sad to see Rufus go but it sounds like you found a good solution for the situation, I am looking forward to seeing the outcome, hopefully we will see a few pictures from time to time.

If we don't see you around on the forum, good luck in your next project!

Sorry to hear that, it was a great car.
Last year I got a 911 book and your Rufus is featured in it.
I would have made the same decision and move one. You can start all over again with next project.

So sorry to hear about the loss. I wish we had met when I was visiting SF area but unfortunately I didn't get to see the Rufus.

On a side note, why is this post not in 993 TT section

Steve,

Saddened that you will be passing the car to another person. Stick around!

I'm happy to hear you avoided major injury and that you found a home for Rufus to be resurrected. Not fighting with insurance will make it much easier to close the chapter. Best of luck in whatever direction you head.

Thanks for the update. It will be fun to see LA Dismantlers give Rufus a new life.

Steve, I'd assume there was a set formula to buy the salvage back from State Farm. Was that number about 27.5-28.5% of your stated value policy amount? Then, hopefully you were able to flip it to LA Dis for a profit.

Lastly, you need to keep a Porsche in your garage. Go buy a new 991 GT3 or get on the allocation list for a new 991 GT3RS. You won't look back.

sorry to hear that Steve, but think about all those great miles you put on that car. The memories can't be dented or crushed.

good luck with your future endeavors, but I agree that you should stick around or at least pop in occasionally.

be well sir.

I'm gonna miss seeing Rufus driving around town but glad that you are doing well and that his heart will beat in another body. I hope some day I see you at Canepa's Cars and Coffee in a new toy. I hope you stick around rennlist as well.
