OT: What to do with old brake rotors???
My DIY craziness has been partially carried over to my daily drivers. I replaced my front pads/rotors on my 94 camry today. It was incredibly easy ( as easy as the p-car ).
Now where does one dispose of old brake rotors? Is there a place to recycle them or ???

Hi Jeff,
My shop wanted my old rotors for the bolts that hold the hats to the discs. Apparently these are quite expensive from Porsche, something like $17.50 each. I don't know if this is true, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the price per bolt from Porsche.
Anyway, this shop does lots of "Big Red" conversions for Audis, as well as several other big-brake packages. I've seen 6-piston Cayenne-sized Brembos mounted on an '03 A4, for example. These bolts are quite useful for these applications
The discs are probably not worth recycling, even though I bet that what most of the folks on this board consider "worn" or "old" would provide years or decades of use to most folks. Several of my friends and co-workers only replace brake pads when the hear metal-on-metal, and they've never considered replacing the rotors. When I tell them that I might go through 2-3 sets of pads and at least 1 set of rotors in a year for my track car, they totally freak out.
I've seen pictures of someone who mounted a clock inside the old rotors, and they looked quite nice. I can't recall is this was on rennlist or somewhere else, but it seemed like as good an idea as any.

Jeff:
We simply recycle these as scrap metal.
They should never be sold for big-brake conversions on other cars,.....
One other idea is that if you want to improve your muscle tone, they made dandy (if dangerous) frisbees,....

Hi Jeff, take them to the Palo Alto Recycling center (101 to old Carlsen Porsche exit, drive past PA airport, right...) and toss them in the scrap metal bin.
Question: what to do with used brake fluid??

Thanks Oleg... For the used brake fluid, I've taken it to the recycling days events sponsored by the county. There's also a service station close by that said they would take some no charge.
