Plug labeled O its directly under the relay and that's the wire you have to cut. As you can see both ends are within the plug.

I ran the wire to the switch were one end was plugged in to the ignition and the other to the coil plugs. (see the switch diagram)

The bracket that I used to mount the switch was purchased at home depot for $2.81, its a deck joint bracket shaped like a z. Cut one side off and you have a mounting bracket

Thanks so much for taking the time to document and forgive the silly question, but are all of these connections needed if the idea is to simulate the removal of the DME relay without actually doing it and using a kill switch instead? Couldn't you simply cut the wire on the back of the DME plug, extend each end, and connect them to a hidden toggle switch? Toggle the switch to the OFF position when leaving and to ON before starting the car. Just asking because I'd like to do something similar so I don't have to open the frunk and pull the relay each time.

Yes, you can bring the two wires from the DME to any location that you choose to and have a regular on and off switch. I would not recommend using it to turn the car off while it's running but only as theft protection. The 6pole switch comes with a resistor that prevents damage to the alternator system during emergency shut off. Purpose for the kill switch with pull cable mounted outside the car is for the track personal so they could shut your car off from out side if you're in a car rack . M

The idea of a DME cutout switch is a good one.

I'm not an expert by any means, but my instinct does not like the idea of a lead/acid battery three feet from my face, behind the fuel tank, and next to the hi-energy fuse box.

I'd also change the hold down bar to something non-conductive rather than alloy.

Regards,

.

Yeah, thanks for the help, but not going to move my battery. Just want a simple kill/switch for the DMR relay. Not wanting to relocate battery. I will figure something out and post the DIY here for others. Good job though.

Don't worry about people picking your install apart.
I mean, it's not like the car could burn down or something......

No worries, it seams that Cemoto was right when he said he was no expert. Folks that disagree with my battery location apparently never owned or looked at a 996 or 997, the battery location is in the same"" spot !!!! This post was and is about the dme relay not my battery location. If I was really concerned about it, I would ask the so called "experts"!!!!! cheers M

Must admit I freaked also when I saw that alloy bus bar so close to battery terminals.

So lets say you hit something head on and the battery jumps forward on impact. Molten metal on top of fuel tank + sparks?

Please lose that strap!

Thanks for the response and it would only be used as a theft deterrent, but a resistor may be a good idea in case of accidental shutoff. I know the pros would simply show up with a flatbed, I'm just trying to make it more difficult for the petty thief to drive off and joyride.

Did you end up using this method? Sounds like a great alternative to the kill switch that's usually discussed...
