Default Spark plug behind power steering unit

Hi, I have read that some clever people have managed to remove the infamous rhs plug behind power steering unit without attacking from underneath (which involves removing silencer and shroud etc).

I'm about to embark on changing this plug - does anyone have any experience of managing to do this from the top?

Thank you

Ive done it from the top. You can too. it sucks, lol. I used an assortment of short extensions and even I swivel iirc... get the plug wire off the plug, get a spark plug socket down in there and kiss your knuckles goodbye. I think I used multiple short extensions and removed sections as I pulled out the plug (its just hard to make the bend into the plug access hole with a long extension).

^ Rich, you're a patient man.
I wouldn't even try it from the top. I found it quicker to remove the muffler and tin to access from the bottom. Plus, you can use a torque wrench when access from underneath.

I need to tackle this job soon. anyone have any experience using this speciality wrench from Tite-Reach? I'm thinking it would allow easier access but haven't attempted it...

Buy this and you'll thank God that it exist. Eliminates the anxiety of losing something down in the abyss. The end of the swivel sits just about flush with VC when on plug.Name: image.jpg

I did the spark plugs on mine last year. What a pig of a job.

On mine the spark plug socket went in the hole on the one behind the pas pump and did not want to get out anymore.

We spend four hours to get it out again. Got a new socket that was 1.5 mm slimmer and all went well.

Ohh and I would advise tackling the job from underneath with the wheels off.

Good luck!

i Dit it.

JM993 Posted on it. See:
"Just Replaced All Spark Plugs W/O Taking Anything Apart!!!! "

Then I added to his Post starting at #26 on Page 2 with Pics (on Pg 3) of what I used to Remove the "Bitch Plug"

Its all about Angles - the right angle, thin wrist, long fingers / forearms and the right combo of tools.
Have a Read - It can be done without removing anything.

All I can contribute to this thread is....

Wear gloves. A sweet scar on my hand reminds me of this everyday.

Great replies thanks. I'll certainly read how to remove the plug without removing anything. I'd like to try it.

Apologies I might be being silly but searching the above terms doesn't seem to show the thread - any links? Thanks

The only thing I'll add is to be very sure that that plug is properly torqued down. I've seen them back out and then get blown out of the head, damage to the head, wires and power steering is the result.
