Hello from a new owner of a 96 Targa. Was lucky enough to find a black on black targa with 19 years of single ownership and a stack of records indicating pride of ownership. Car has 95k and recently completed a 90k service with all the appropriate stuff, wires etc.
About 2k miles ago the PO replaced the clutch at a local shop. All seems to be well but from time to time I feel like what I can only describe as "an unwinding spring" in the pedal box area. Wondering if it has anything to do with the clutch, maybe needs to have a break in adjustment?
Looking forward to meeting up with some of the Portland crowd when the weather breaks….July?

usually highway speeds, around 50-60mph. I can't seem to reproduce it, just seems to be random. Has happened 3 times. The first two within a couple of minutes. The last time was after a driving around for a couple of days. Just seems random.

There is a spring in the pedal cluster that can get noisy (Porsche calls it the "clutch power spring" - Part # 964 423 551 02). Mine usually squeals when the weather turns cold. I just spray a little lithium grease on it and it's good for another year.

I agree with this. I'd lube the spring as an easy next step. This should help guide you. http://www.pcarworkshop.com/index.php/993_-_Lubing_the_clutch_pedal_mechanism
By the way, where are the pics of this new Targa?!?!
