Glad to hear you and family are ok, Robin. People complain a lot about the poor drivers in Florida. As a native, all I can say is that they come here from somewhere else (not Atlanta, of course...) .

Good luck getting the car fixed/replaced.

...so the next question is: "what are you going to buy to replace it?"

I'm toying around with the idea of getting a used S6...the idea of 340hp station wagon is intrigueing. Or perhaps a chipped allroad...350+hp twin turbo V6 with a 6 speed manual

Robin,

Happy to hear that you and yours didn't get hurt. After all, that's what's really important. Everything else is just inconvenience! Hope all else goes well with the insurance, etc. Take care!!

"In NYS the insurance companies must have some kind of "near" real-time hook-up with DMV. Any hiccup with your insurance coverage and the DMV immediately demands you surrender your plates. If you don't the troopers show up at your door."
MA is similar and from I understand, it works fairly well. You can't get far w/o plates. Of course, there's always some a-hole who couldn't care less about anyone but himself driving w/o insurance. And driving badly at that (any correlation?)

Glad to hear no one got hurt.

Ah yes, Tactical Tupperware. I have a 17L (competition model), great pistol. I put over 10K rounds through it and when the sight went a bit off, I sent it back to Glock, who rebuilt it, bench tested it and also rebuilt the 2 pre-ban clips, all free of charge. 1" 9 round grouping at 50 ft.

I used a PPK for CCW in TX, of course here in CA they just sit around unused.

Robin, Glad to hear you are ok. Maybe you should replace your MB with a... well... another MB I have heard so many stories about familes walking away from accidents in MBs.

Peter,

Actually I am a big H&K fan, have several H&Ks I carried the H&K P7 M8 for years, just recently changed to the Glock because of the Florida weather. I figured the Glock would have better corrosion resistance than the P7.

I still don't feel very comfortable with the Glock's safety system, so I combined it with the Saf-T-block and the clip draw as the holester system. I carry the Glock in the small back position with t-shirt over hang and is completely undetectable. I also have a Walther PP, which I also carry from time to time, but is a .32 ACP, with less stopping power.

Robin,

I was kidding about the "armed at the time", but am happy to know that no one is gonna mess with you. What would we do w/o you??

Personally I still use my Colt 45 combat model. Useful for those sticky accounts receivable collection matters and home protection. Nothing says "I love you" like the sound of the slide coming back on that cannon.

I'd hate to try and get a concealed permit now in NYS.

Take care.

Yeah, the good old faithful 45 ACP, got one of those too. But my 45 is not really a conceal carry model, it is also really picky with the rounds used since it is compensated.

But, it shoots bowling pins down aross the row without reaquiring targets.

P.S. Sorry about off tracking the topic....

Robin,

Seems we have similar tastes in Walthers, HKs, and Glocks, though my 45 is a Sig. I was going to build a race gun out of my EAA Witness 45, but like so many other projects, it's on hold. Too bad we don't live closer together as I'm always looking for a good shooting partner, and an R-lister to boot whould have been gravy! Nice link to the safe-t-block...never knew such a thing existed. Whenever I CCW'd in camping/hiking situations, I just left the chamber empty, but I like this solution. Thanks!

Robin,

Thanks for the link to the Safe-T-Block, looks like a good idea. Since I was on-call and carried a pager 24x7, I used a Pager Pal, worked out very well and stayed concealed even with a tucked dress shirt or t-shirt.

Robin,

When I was living in Miami, I used to see fatal accidents on I-95 weekly, sometimes daily. It was so sureal. Overturned 18 wheelers and 45 car pile ups. Cars were always on fire. Motorcyclists who average about 120 mph would constantly be getting scraped off the streets.

Did I forget to mention all the illegal immigrants who would pile into the back of an open pickup. They would be trying to hold something down like a 1000 lb. piece of furniture. --

The one spot I saw the most accidents: On I-95 just south of Aventura there is one of those speed lanes that takes you onto an elevated lane. That turn onto the speed land where the concrete barrier begins, it's taken it's share of Mijami drivers.

Hey, at least there is no smog check in Florida.... Can you believe that.. NO SMOG AT ALL.. I think that's really funny.

Sorry about your car, glad the family's safe.
Oh, and since we're talking about Florida and Guns, I like the Sig. The CCW permit is great if you ask me. And so are the CASTLE LAWS....

Sounds like you kept everybody safe with good, common sense driving. I'm truly happy to know that your family and you made it through OK. The important stuff made it.
