Storing a 993 for winter
I was concerned about my Sumis as well, about the "flat spotting" and about any potential damage from the super cold concrete in my garage. It can get down below -40C here in the dead of winter over night.
So what I did was buy 4 of those car dollies that are rounded for a tire that you can get at Princess Auto/Harbour Freight. I cut up an old blanket to put between the tire and the metal, covered up the intakes with steel wool, cracked the windows a little, put stabilizer in and put a cover on. I'm sure she'll wake up fine in 5 months.

If I didn't put it in the bubble for the winter, I'm afraid the mice might destroy it. I see mice scurrying around when I'm in the garage. They do not seem to be afraid of me. I've had first hand experience of mice destroying a vehicle. My brother stored his mint vehicle for the winter by just putting a cover over it. In the spring, it wouldn't start because most if the wiring harness's were chewed through, the seats were destroyed, the door cards and glove box both had holes in them. On to the moisture issue, I had an old MB that was mint. For storage, I just covered it. In the spring all the exposed metal brackets, screws, etc on the engine and anywhere else were rusted. This is because the other vehicles drop so much snow with salt off them when they're parked in the garage. I have piece of mind with the bubble.
Why would your 993 seals "fail" by leaving the doors and hood closed fully?
Trying to understand this but not getting it. I would think that if your doors and hood are closed for so long that they are at risk of being in permanent compression, you have more serious mechanical problems than your car's weatherstripping.

Kreeshp, well.....mine is not a daily driver and door seals are as important as any other small items on a 16 year old car. I do not have any mechanical issues. I take care of the big items same as the small. I have 53,000 miles on this 98S and it is just like new. Have a nice holiday. Mark

Resurrecting this thread as it’s that time of year & I found it very helpful. Wanted to share what I did with the 993:
Let’s see how we go in 4 months!
- Hooked up the battery maintainer. I have the eyelets connected to the clamps and use the CTEK quick connect. Cable snakes out right in the corner of the hood, and I keep the hood closed.
- Washed, clay bar on the hot spots (rear fenders; glass), glass cleaner, and really cleaned the wheels. Wiped down with Griot’s ceramic wax.
- 10oz of Sta-Bil in the tank at 1/2 full, filled it up to the _brim_.
- didn’t touch any other fluids.
- Silica gel bags inside the car ( )
- Steel wool in the exhaust pipes. My building doesn’t have rodents, but better safe than sorry.
- Handbrake off (but wasn’t pedantic about this)
- One last longing look
- Car cover on — I don’t usually bother, because the on/off of a cover can scratch paint, but this is going to stay on until at least March. Keeps the dust off the paint. Have a Silverguard cover designed for the 993.

Sounds good! I would also inflate the tires to at least the recommended pressure if not slightly over and consider tire cradles too. You may want to put a Damprid on the floor and check it periodically.
Good point, almost forgot that. I need to pump up to 40psi. I was going to roll the car forward half a turn (and mark the tires) after 1.5 months but not sure I’ll bother. I expect modern Continentals to be fine after the first 10-15 post-storage miles.
You could put it onto jackstands which would be good for tires and prevent theft but that would make it harder to take for a spin on one of those occasional sunny 50 degree days in Jan/Feb.
Do rodents actually try to get into the exhaust system? I've never heard of that. I have seen pics of rodent nests back behind the alternator though.
I realize he has a cover but are you suggesting he put the toxic and corrosive damp rid on the floor inside the car?
Putting it outside the car in a large NYC multi tenant garage isn't going to do anything.
