JF,

I agree about the seats, with your RS "Clone", they match perfectly.

2750 lbs, that pretty much exactly what my car weights without me & 1/2 tank fuel! I think I might be just a tad heavier, what have you done for weight reduction?

Follow Part 3:

rjh1213:

If your interested in the car please PM or email me at josephfawsitt@sbcglobal.net. The price is not set in stone at this point.

FF:

I have not gone about the weight reduction in as scientific manner as you, I did not not weigh everything I removed changed. My weight is derived from the present format of the car when it was last aligned/corner balanced. Here is a list of what I removed/changed from stock:

Wheels.
Rear Wing Fixed (removed all motorized wing components).
Removed all rear wiper conponants.
Removed Third Brake Light
Replaced Windshield Washing Reservoir with RS unit.
Removed Bumper Guards from front and rear bumpers.
Removed Cruise Control
Removed Stock Mufflers weighed with Factory Super Cup straight pipes.
Replaced Dual Mass Flywheel with Light Weight Flywheel.
Removed Rear Seats
Replaced stock door panels with light weight panels
Replaced Stock Seats with RS Seats
Replaced stock Airbag Wheel With RS Wheel.

About the only weight I've added is the FPB, Tech Art Pedals & The aluminum Instrument Bezels.

Car was weighed without spare wheel tool kit and compressor. Dry weight is you subtract the gas was 2759lbs.

96P993:

At the present time the rear window is plugged with the 944 parts/solution . I would rather replace the rear glass but have been reluctant to go to the expensive (better parts to spend the money on). I did reupholster the rear parcel shelf covering the holes for the rear wiper mechanism and the rear seat belt openings.

Thanks JF,

My car's dry weight is about 2715 lbs.
With full tank of gas (116 lbs), engine and transmission oils (25 + 8 lbs) weight is about 2860 lbs.

I still have some easy items (motorized rear wing & rear side panels) to be removed but other than that, it's going to be harder now.

My goal is to be below 2800 with full tank which should be feasible without going too radical.

Roll bar is going to add quit a bit though, maybe at that point it's time to replace the sunroof & start thinking about lexan windows...

Another thing I think I'll put back is the stereo & front speakers back.
My wife promised she'll stop calling me grazy and nagging about "stupid stuff" I do with my car if I do that.
So, those few pounds that save me all that nagging is worth it.
What it will add have to be replaced by something else lighter!

I was wondering about that. RS door panels are appealing to me, but I have to say I kinda like the current sound system setup. Is there enough room to relocate the stock speaker + tweeter in an RS door panel without catching the window mechanism ?

Isn't it a standard dash minus the airbag and lower dash section. I believe the foam knee pad is from the 964RSA.

Haven't even though about that yet but I've seen RS panels w/ (both) speakers so it should be doable. Don't know wheter those speaker I've seen were stock or not though...

Kim,

Did some reading and you are correct. You can make out the release **** and outline of the glovebox on the right.

Greg:

Here are some pictures of my RS door panels completed. I decided not to go with a separate tweeter but a single 2-way co-axel speaker with an integrated tweeter (Kenwood Excelon) which was closer to the original RS look. I'm not a hifi expert but my system is more than adequate for my needs (Nackamichi CD-45Z head/tuner, Kenwood 2 way speakers in the back) and sounds 5000 times better than the factory setup.

Nice JC!

From where did you get the silver inserts for door handles?

Also, what size is that speaker?

Thanks!

FF:

These are factory 993 RS interior door handles, They come with the silver insert. I got them from Gert (it took a couple of months they were on back order. The speakers are Kenwood Excelon KFC-X138 5.25", same as the stock none hifi units they sound great!
