Talking DO you DUST ???

just finished detailing & was thinkin' about keeping a duster in the trunk for between washes... (one of those big brushes w/ the red threads)
BUT 1st wanted to see if anyone else has used one w/ a "bad experience"???

currently i just water-rinse my cars off & follow w/ a towel & some "speed shine"------------> but i like the (quicker) idea of dusting.

i'd like to do it if it doesn't scratch.

thanks for feedback.

The "original" one with the wooden handle and red threads is the one to get. The wax is baked into the threads. The plastic handle versions have wax sprayed on and are not very effective.
And it's true. the dirtier the duster gets the better it works!

I have one of the plastic handled ones ($14 at walmart) and it works great. The first couple times, it will leave light streaks on the car, but it is just wax residue. Not big deal.

Thumbs up on the Duster Thingie! It keeps the car clean in between washes. Additionally, I use a "Spray Detailer" every few days after I dust to keep it looking tip top. I've tried a few brands and honestly don't find much of a difference between them. When I feel like the towel (which I change/wash often) feels like it's not sliding over the finish as well as I'd like, I then decide to wash the car. I've been doing this for over two years with the 993 and numerous years with my previous cars with no ill effects on the finish...and I'm picky!

I bought one of those brushes from Griots a year or so ago. It works great for removing pollen etc. from a recently waxed and washed car that does spend significant time in agarage. I was lazy and tried to use it with a very dirty car and within the first 12 inches of brushing the hood I could hear the scratching (Ugh!). Thankfully, nothing noticeable nor permanent. Lesson learned and other than post wash/wax wipes, it stays in the trunk. Long story short, thumbs up - but not for anything more than recent pollen or dust.

Ditto - but use it on a cold car. If your car is hot, it will melt the wax and leave big wax streaks. I see some small wax streaks even if the car is cold, but that's probably because of my dark color (midnight blue).

YEah, couple of tips...
1) follow the directions, i.e., leave it on a news paper for a couple of days.
2) NEVER use when the car is hot...the secret to the thing is the fibers are paraffin coated, and the heat of the car, esp those back fenders, will melt and streak.
3) Never use if the car got wet, misted, fogged on, anything like that...at that point your dust becomes dirt, and you are hosed.
4) Never use if it is beyond dust. If you drove down a dirt road, don't try to dust it off. It will scratch it.
5) Keep it in the case when not in use
6) Get the Cali Duster, not an imitation.
7) Stay on it...I use it virtually every morning just before I drive it. It works great for light dust, not 2 weeks of sitting in a garage sort of dust.
