Been running Brad Penn oil -- can I transition to something else? Mobil 1?
I do NOT want to start yet another oil debate but just wondering: the PO of my car ran Brad Penn 10-30, which is semi-synthetic. Can I switch to Mobil 1? Or the Porsche oil (I'm having the change done at the dealership). Could I switch back sometime later?
thanks

Yes you can switch brands and viscosity. You should be running a 15-50w oil, despite what the dealer may tell you. I use a blend of Mobil 1 15-50, and Mobil 1 V-twin 20-50 to get more of the anti-wear additives for our flat tappet engines. 10-30W oil is just WRONG, no matter the brand.

I've seen more than a few posts of people mixing oils to get the right viscosity for their actual environments. On mobile so no links but they are around. That said I run straight v-twin.

To answer the OP's question.....you can switch oils with no prep work. Just dump the old oil and install your new oil.
On the comments of mixing Mobil 1 with Mobil V-Twin oil, I think we are perhaps overthinking things. Nothing wrong with mixing the two.....but, why not run 100% Mobil V-Twin and make life simple?
The V-Twin has the original formulation for ZDDP, since V-Twin is used for motor cycles, which are as of this date, not required to install catalytic converters capable of life spans of 150,000 miles. I think that running 100% V-Twin oil should be fine for any Porsche.

V-Twin doesn't come in 5qt jug for $25 bucks..some of us bought 993s because we are cheap...or rather like to spend money on other things sa well

My understanding is that Brad Penn has been recently sold. If that is the case, we'll have to watch to see if the new owner cheapens the formulations such as Royal Purple did several years ago. It took a while for the image to degrade since folks have a tendency to think that since the packaging hasn't changed......the product is unchanged as well. Witness the changes in Royal Purple and Mobil 1 formulations. Never take anything for granted!
