Default Cracked Tires

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. I drive my 993 about 1,000 miles per year. These tires are six years old. I park in the shade. Plenty of tread, but the cracks make me think it is time to replace them. Michelin has a 4 year warranty, so no recourse.

Has anyone else experienced this? Probably not safe to drive, right?

that is dry rot and pretty damn bad.

I'd replace those at once.

That sucks... I'd replace them if i were you. It's just not worth risking the safety of yourself or others.

I have no problem driving on older tires that exhibit no cracks. With cracks it is time to replace! If you do not drive you car much there are less expensive tires that have harder compound that may hold up better over long periods or possibly consider all season rather than strictly performance tires.
Just some thoughts,
Andy

Whoa,..whoa,....super dangerous!!

I've seen far too many totaled 911's with cracked and/or old tires caused by either outright carcass failure at speed, or loss of grip due to hardened rubber. All of these accidents were preventable which makes those losses very sad (at least to me).

Tires that are either 7 years old and/or cracked should not be used for anything and replaced ASAP. IMHO, its simply not worth it.

A 1,000 miles per year and you're running an all season tire? Why?? So you can take the car out on rainy, cold, snowy days and have good traction?

I have a hard time believing that those tires are only 6 years old. What are the date codes on them?

Toss them and make with the tire swing action. They wouldn't even use use for a tire wall at the race track

I agree with Pirahna, check those date codes. Those tires were either subject to extreme heat for extended periods or are older than you may think. I have seen tires sold new that were years old from the warehouse.

Either way, those need to be changed before you drive another foot!! Safety first!!

Tires are cheap compared to your life and that of your 993...

If those tires are only six years old, you need to find better shade.

Thanks for the excellent input. I will get new tires this week.

Date code on the cracked tires is 4008, which is the first week of October 2008. I bought the tires in 2009.

I suspect that the cracking is the result of Texas heat. I do park in the shade, but it is not climate controlled.
