I've been told that the transmission is better in the 97-98my. Is there anything else?

On the Carrera 4S? The tranny was the same throughout the years. In fact, I can't think of anything that makes a '97 or later model better other than the fact that their ECU is easier to reprogram.

I was told the tranny is stronger in the 97-98's. Specifically I think it was the 1st and 2nd gear syncros are more prone to fail in the 96. I have no idea certainly dont want to offend. I'm just starting my search.

That sounds like the G64/51 Turbo tranny. Not the same as the G64/21 found on the C4 and C4S.

The input shaft on 96 models are not as strong as the 97-98's from what a little birdy told me. And that the ECU's are harder to program.
