Motorsound airbox cover

I'm thinking about buying a motorsound airbox cover. This was one if my checkbox items after purchasing. Purely for the sound experience. Is it a waste of my money or not? FYI - I really do not want to fabricate one.

I made a drill template a while ago. It is floating around somewhere (lent it out to the community).

I think you will only see a difference on high rev.
Maybe someone can answer this question : can he remove the air filter and cover for a short ride to get a feeling of a drilled cover ?

I put one on and can't tell the difference to be perfectly honest. The silver ring looks nice though..haha
Drilling out a stock box will take some patience unless you like the hacked look.

Created a pattern (based on factory spec hole placement) and drilled mine myself took no time at all. I hear no difference sound wise.
I think some years may even have the template on the backside of the cover you can use as a drill guide.

+1 I recently purchased one from Sunset and have no regrets. A VERY slight increase in motorsound - and the "chrome" looks nice. But if you want sound get some Fisters - I can't wait for my Fister Stage III's to be installed next week!!

I noticed a definite WOT difference. I did it before the Fister IIs so I may have been more sensitive. I recommend drilling yours out or buying one and doing the same - cheaper that buying the official part and same effect.

a little extra growl at WOT. it is a pretty easy DIY to drill a bunch of holes in the airbox. I followed the pattern that is on the inside, which is really unnecessary, since very few people are ever going to see the lid of the airbox. Any holes will do the trick.
The previously mentioned template that was made is a pretty slick way to go about it. Not sure if there is a list somewhere, but I am sure a rennlister would be happy to send it on to you.

I drilled mine out and it took very little time to do. I can hear a difference on wot but I still have stock mufflers on my car. I would imagine that the sound difference would be undetectable for anyone running Fisters or anything comparable.

I bought a used cover (so I could save the stock one just in case) for $35 and drilled it per the embossed rear template already on it, I too have Fister Stage 2 exhaust. Like others I also definitely noticed a difference in sound, especially at wide open throttle, well worth it IMO. I went this route because I am a cheapass, but even I now realize Quad was right and given time and aggravation, I'd buy the Sunset one if doing it again.
